What would be the best cans for me?

...............and it says that SPL is measured in decibels, what's your point?

Your ears are sound pressure receptors.  Pressure is measured in dB.  The higher the pressure, the louder things seem.  To amplify a signal, the pressure your ear receives must increase.

I see, my final decision is coming down to Beyerdynamic DT 990, and the Ultrasone Pro 900's. I like the open design of the DT990's, as I'm guessing the closed Pro 900's can only sound so good yeah? I've a set of headphones with two cups right now, cloth and leather. The leather ones close strong, but things get muddy. With the cloth headphones the bass doesn't hit so much but the mids and highs are far more clear.. Though, I'm guessing the Pro 900's sound amazing anyways.

That is what I'm worried about, is the closed sound of the 900 Pro, closed can only sound so good.. -and I also wonder if the DT990 has enough punch.

i don't have the beyers. but..the beyers usually have more than enoug bass and impact. usually. you will need someone to check me on this,.

I haven't heard the DT990s, but I found the DT880s to have pretty good bass. The DT770s had kind of muddy boomy bass, though. I expect the DT990s to lean closer to the DT880's style, though.

Now to the deciding factor, does the 900 Pro have leather or cloth earcups? I find cloth to offer enough breathing room even though the can is closed to not be so muddy...

They have velvet ear pads. The 900s also come with spares as well.

Alright, I'm leaning towards the 900. Only problem now is to find a decent price.

and an amp for it... >_<
The E11 could do. But for such a headphone. most would go with the new upcomming release of the E17 ($150) or if your short on money the E10 for $80, but the E10 is not portable. The E17 has the best of all worlds which is why it's priced that way.
it more or less combines the E11,E10,E7, and E9 into one package. it has the E7's size, dock capabilities, advanced DAC. It builds off the E11's great amping that many buy, it has better and punchier bass and mids than the E10 and has the same build quality. And it's amp has been reviewed to sound better than the E9's (the E9 amps more though)

I'll be using this on a highend PC with an Asus Xonar Essence STX soundcard, this has an amp capable of pushing 600ohm cans.

Pro 900 works excellent with Xonar Essence cards. I know this from first hand experience

good to know. i'm getting the E17 to use as....basically everything. an all in one. The STX also has some very very good specs. but i need portability and everutyhing so the Essensce wouldn't be a good choice for me.
