**"What is"
Right now, I can get the M50's for $80 or the DT770 for $120.
My current phones are Sony MDR-V6 that I use a lot for mixing and recording. They've been awesome and still work fine, but for music they leave me a little disappointed in certain genres. I'm searching for a more musical headphone. I listen to everything, but I lean a lot more towards Hip-hop, R&B, Smooth Jazz, and those genres. Also some electronic. So I'm looking for closed headphones with impactful bass. I want to hear the deep thumping bass and crisp hit-hat. And for rock I like the warmer sound signatures which show off more of the bass and toms of the drum. I'm not too concerned about mids, but it'd be nice if they weren't that recessed. And a crisp treble which isn't too harsh, but that wouldn't be a dealbreaker. I might also be looking into using these for gaming and movies. So I'd prefer an nicer soundstage as well. I own a Fiio E7 that I use mainly as a DAC for my laptop, so the 250ohm DT770 would be perfectly driveable.
I'm leaning more towards the M50 for the price, but I'm a little concerned I won't be satisfied with the bass and soundstage. However, it would probably be a better all around choice since my music is very diverse.
The DT770 has that excellent bass and soundstage and would work well with the majority of my music. But the price is a little higher than I would like.
Or if anyone has any other recommendations for closed headphones under $120, that would also be appreciated. Or you convince me to stretch the budget a little more for something else, but it has to really be worth it.
Thankyou.
