AKG K-701. I had been contemplating having my K-340 modded. I heard the K-701, and realized that AKG had already done the mod work. The sonic signature of the two is actually very similar on Wheatfield HA-2, with the K-701 having more extended highs and better definition. The K-701 immediately jumped onto my "get this headphone" list, as an easier way to get the sound I was looking for than modding the older headphone.

I want a pair of ATs, maybe... I really want to sample their house sound, but I don't know where to start!

(On that note, any suggestions would be welcomed /threadjack)

I need to take it easy for a while, and maybe start selling something each time I get the urge to buy something new. My headphone purchases in 2005 include the SA5000, 325i, HF-1, K701, W5000 and AD2000. Amps include the Hornet, SM3v6, and EAR Yoshino V20. Plus I just bought a 60 GB Video iPod, and that doesn't even include the HT and 2 channel upgrades that I did this past year. May 2006 be known as the year he sold more than he bought!

1) external DAC to be used with my AV710
2) better amp (gilmore lite probably) for my HD600
3) not quite a purchase but i need to get my HD280 repaired, the plastic around the headband has been cracked for a while and currently i have black duct tape to hold it in place.

might go with home built solutions for the amp, if time permits.
probably try making a few cables myself too.
as far as cans go, i'm very happy with my HD600 so i don't see an upgrade in that area for a while, not until i upgrade my sources and amps.

You make me feel better (or less worse). I only bought half your headphone list in 2005, but I added a few of my own. I need for 2006 to be the year he bought nothing.

Only problem is I recall making the same statement about 2005..

I'm about to get KSC-35. It was a cheaper alternative than W5000 as portable headphone
