This is one of those albums I always come back to, no matter where my genre tastes go from season to season. There is no doubt in my mind that Josh Ritter is one of the best (if not the best) folk lyricists alive today, and this is his most cohesive, enthralling work to date to my ears. Highlights include "Girl In The War", "Wolves", and, of course, "Thin Blue Flame", which remains Ritter's most impassioned song so far (including the oft-cited and oft-covered "Another New World" from a later album). In two days it'll be nine years since the release of this album, and yet it still feels new and completely immersive every time I listen.
