What a long, strange trip it's been -- (Robert Hunter)

...The abduction from the seraglio was better executed, despite German only surtitles, and I find the plot generally better than most of Mozarts operas, so much so that I’d take it above don giovanni or Cosi fan tutte.
My daughter, at 19 going on 20, has watched (via streaming) some 250 operas. She says The Abduction From the Seraglio is the worse, except for the Star Trek themed version :)

She's going to FRA (spring semester abroad). Any suggestions for venues there or Munich (which I hope to go to the Audio Fest and meet up with her after classes are done....)

Art is certainly a matter of taste! What are her top three?

Zurich mail is delivered by sort of bike mopeds with trailers, and there’s plenty of pride there as well. It’s beautiful but I think San Francisco is more beautiful.

She says that's a tough question.

First off, her personal favorites are:
  • Eugene Onegin (Tchaikovsky)
  • Manon (Massenet)
  • Queen of Spades (Tchaikovsky)
Objective "bests" influenced by personal taste (balancing art criticism and personal preferences).
  • Boris Godunov (Mussorgsky)
  • Un ballo in Mascara (Verdi)
  • Cavalleria Rusticana (Mascagni)
Nuts! I'm satisfied with Tosca.

I didn’t try it, but I found the combination banh mi and specialty coffee spoke well of both establishments.

The opera choices are not my own, with the exception of Onegin, which I love. Hopefully she will grow into Wagner. Tannhauser and Lohengrin at first, the ring and late masterpieces later. Perhaps overtures, Siegfried idyll, prelude and liebestod, and the quintet In Meistersinger to start.

For the Verdi, I’d go for Othello, Falstaff, and don carlo, which we see at the Royal opera on Monday.

Some Edinburgh pics.

A bit of elaboration of the upcoming Urd’s sockets/IO: There is, of course an onboard transport, its output being connected tp S/PDIF, AES/EBU, and USB. In addition, there are two additional USB inputs which can be switched to compare the transport along with two other USB inputs (streamer, etc.). Sonic sophisticates will use the USB out (unison, of course.). Using the other outputs is like farting at the queen’s ball. It can drive others away. Also, all USB IO is isolated.
Mike (or anyone with an Urd), what's the preferred way to connect from Urd's USB-C to Yggdrasil's USB-B? I haven't seen that type of direct connect cable. Thanks!

With Oppenheimer's opening, I'd be remiss to not ask about your own special project with a similar name.

Here is one of multiple examples on Amazon of USB C to B

And more expensive flavors from AudioQuest:

My daughter is making me take her to the Fisher Conservatory at Bard College tomorrow to see Henry VIII.
Keep me in your prayers!

This is a learning opportunity....
whatever you did to deserve this, don't repeat your mistake!

Life's too short for bad entertainment!

BTW -- some say there's a reason the original Globe caught fire in 1613 during a performance of Henry VIII

Is this the play or the Saint-Saens opera by the same name?

I saw Henry VIII at the globe last year. It was a bit tedious. Henry IV Part 1 is my favorite of the histories, though Richard 2 and Henry VI Part 2 are also excellent.

The opera by Saint-Saens. Good times, pretty part of New York state. Fisher was lovely with its building designed by Gehry. Long drive ;-(

And, the conservatory and my daughter are the same age!

I mistyped - that's Henry *IV* Part 2. All three parts of Henry 6 are forgettable prefatory material for Richard III, interesting only to the development of the English history as a genre. Too few women to make good operas from them, sadly, except perhaps Richard 2.

That Globe theatre was arguably the most important theatre ever built, and if not, second behind only the Theater of Dionysus in Athens.

On the USB Type-C - USB Type-B cables...
Oyaide (Japanese ) makes a great looking one in their well-built D+ series.
Only the regular copper for now it seems ( no 102SSC yet their crazy-made replacement for OCC ) but their eye pattern is rock solid within the D+ series.

It's what I would use anyhow.
The D+ Class A regular is great stuff.

Here a linky with some specs. Note they are also impedance matched correctly no guesswork.
