What a long, strange trip it's been -- (Robert Hunter)

Oh, I just got a cheap generic one. It's just a coil spring that bottoms out and it's going to be very nearly the same every time, and all that does is make sure that's consistent from shot to shot so I can change the other variables to see their effects on the shot, without wondering if I just happened to tamp it differently.

Hey all,
Once upon a time I used to post here....
After dealing with:
1. Dual delta sigma designs on all of our less expensive DACs to keep them in production.
2. Dual DSP platforms on all of our higher end DACs to keep them in production (still in process, but getting better).
3. Translating our digital filter to FPGAs to keep our higher end DACs in production if all DSP platforms leave the planet.
I may actually post again!!
Really - not just an empty threat.

But what to talk about??
Wellllll,
1. The completion of our first ground-up custom programmed mega burrito delta sigma DAC. I used to think that ds designs sounded like a slapped ass. Turs out I was fulla Schiit, but completely? Stay tuned.
2. What's the diff between the dsp platforms and the diff between the less expensive DACs. More coming.
3. A whole new way of analog/digital coupling which is giving me a 35 year maxima in audio wood.

Back to the fun!

Dear Mike, how are you doing? Hope your health is doing well.
Are you still having fun?
Would be cool if you can give some updates on above 3 points. Pretty sure the Syn has to do with the above.

It's about time for his yearly post
I hope Mike shares insight into URD when it hits the market. He's put time and effort into that machine along with his cohorts, and I'd be interested in reading about the design philosophy and how it can vacuum cleaner bits off a CD.

I'm more eager to hear about the gadget, and whether it will ever escape its purgatorial existence and emerge as a shipping product. I'd like to buy about three.

Just saw the final dress of die Frau ohne Schatten last night. An absolutely absurd plot, decent production, and beautiful music — I made a point to ignore the supertitles to the extent that I could and just wallow in the sound. Some of the most gorgeous melodies Strauss ever wrote. I'd prefer to see it act by act as the main event of a symphony program, I think that's where it would shine, but the three hours and forty five minutes in the theatre were fine.

Seeing Wozzeck on Wednesday at the Royal Opera, Tristan on Thursday at Grange Park, and Kleider Machen Leute a week from Sunday in Prague. Gotterdammerung lands a week thereafter at the Staatsoper Wien, and Don Carlo in early July, also at the ROH. There may be sundry others, especially in Vienna.

Hey Mike, what is your opinion of these "audiophile fuses" I keep hearing about. I have a hard time believing any of the hype, especially when they are on the primary side of the power transformer.

Hope you're doing well!

That sounds grand, Bosie. Enjoy the ride. :)

Enjoying Vienna after a week in England and Prague. Seeing gotterdammerung in a few hours. A taste of what I’ve seen so far — volksoper, Musikverein, Karlskirsche, Danube, and tons and tons of pride.

Great pics!

When my wife and daughter went, they also went to the Spanish Riding School. Any plans for that?

I’ve never heard of such a thing, but no, we’ve departed Vienna, spent a day in Zurich, then come to London and are now in Edinburgh.

Here are a few Vienna staatsoper pics, followed by some from the long leisurely ride across Austria to Zurich, which I strongly recommend. Gotterdammerung was orchestrally excellent despite underpowered leads. The abduction from the seraglio was better executed, despite German only surtitles, and I find the plot generally better than most of Mozarts operas, so much so that I’d take it above don giovanni or Cosi fan tutte. Thé characters are better drawn and the pacing is more coherent. If the music isn’t quite as exquisitely wrought, oh well. The dialogue can be translated into English and easily updated for the villain dictator du jour.

In any case—pics. Joseph Reindl is my coffee pic for Vienna. Yes I did get a loyalty card and after 9 coffees, the pictured Eiskaffe was gratis.
