How am I just learning about this?!

I'm wondering... Does having a USB input connected to a (non gen 5) input degrade the audio quality when listening via the SPDIF? Where I'm coming from is that the USB device is potentially injecting undesirable noise into the dac, even if there's nothing playing on USB.

@Baldr, do I have this right: in a system that is already using an Eitr, you would connect the Eitr to the USB source, then coax to the Gadget, and then coax from the Gadget to the DAC? Thanks.

I can't wait to hear some impressions from RMAF. Does the gadget have its own impressions thread yet? What about Eitr?

You don't need RMAF for Eitr impressions. TL; DR: if you have a DAC that takes S/PDIF coax, and a source that produces USB, get the Eitr and use the > $1000 you save compared to a competitive setup (eg. Aries AES, Berkeley Alpha USB) to improve your DAC/amp/transducers.
