Had W4 for several months and hated them. For me their mids are too veil, bass is too dominating, and vocal is unnatural.
Although I really like UM3X - crystal detailed, with natural mids including vocal. But a little lack of low bass as for me.
Any chances I would love ES5?

I think you will. I never really enjoy W4 and UM3X myself too.

How would the ES5 compare to JH13? I got the SE535 right now and I'm in love with the forward mids, it really fits the music I listen to perfectly (Trance 99%).

I don't know about trance music for the es5, but I would recommend the es5 over jh13 for sure. First off the fit on the es5 is really good, they have a hybrid design which IMO, much better in terms of seal and comfortability. The base performance on the es5 is perfect, although with only one driver for base, the driver is huge readily producing very articulated and extended base response. The crossover is done pretty good on the es5 as well. I would say that the jh13s are more neutral but there's something special with the es5. If you enjoy the shure 535, I would highly recommend the es5.

IME, I think you will. The ES5 has a satisfying bass, liquid mids, and superb clarity. Basically, it's extremely balanced and leaves you satisfied with every aspect of the sound, except for maybe the slight muffled mids in the first 200 hours; it does open up though so do not worry. However, the question for you is, is the $995 worth it to you?

Depends on what kind of trance, but it's really a tossup between the ES5 and the JH16. I've heard both, and I can't really pin point which one would suit Trance better. Even the general consensus is split 50/50, it seems, because some people opt for the slightly better guarantee fit and comfort of the heat-activated vinyl tips, while others disregard that for the more bass quantity the 16 offers.

I opted for the ES5 because it's a rather balanced IEM, and its slightly mid-forwardness suited my taste for vocals. It also handles many other genres extremely well IMO, so I found it more versatile than the 16 (which I've also auditioned).

Are the ES5s a huge upgrade over the SE535/W4? I love the mids of the Shure but i feel that the veil & strong coloration is somewhat preventing me from fully appreciating the music.

Here's a review of the Westone ES5: Click Me

Here's a quote from the review: " For those who prefer the Westone 3 and 4 over the Shure SE535, but missed the forwardness and lushness of the SE535, the ES5 is perhaps the perfect amalgam for you. "

Bleh. I've got +1000 hours on mine and they sound the same as they did when I first got them. Mids will sound veiled when you're coming from a headphone that's got a peak in the 8Khz region every time, but you get used to it. For some recordings it works wonders, and for some it's not so good - just like with every other headphone.

how much 'viel' does the ES5 has when compared to mid eccentric IEMs such as the se535 and the um3x?

That answer is going to change depending on who you ask and how they wear, gear, and hear those phones.
