What's the SQ u r looking for? Stepdance sounded very decent to my ears when I auditioned it at Jaben.

you arent using any amps anymore? stepdance 2nd hand is what i was thinking of at first, but the ibasso pb1 new is the same price as the second hand stepdance, which are around the same price

I just managed to get a HM-602, which I'm pairing it with my ES5. Sounds great, except it's a lil warm. But the clarity and details is excellent. It's analogue sounding but ES5 goes pretty well with it. The SQ is very comparable to my previous set-up (iPod video + iQube v2). But I think the 602 wouldn't sound good with UM3X or UM2 coz they're pretty dark.

I haven't heard PB1 so it wouldn't be fair fore to comment. But the stepdance sounded very good to me, with a touch of warmness. Clarity and details are definitely present. Soundstage is quite good too. What genre do u listen to?

You must be one of the very few - if not the only one -, at least round here, to describe the UM3X as "pretty dark". I'd call the UM3X warm, not dark. But then again, we may have different definitions for warm & dark. Same goes for the UM2, BTW.

We all hear differently. Music is a pretty personal thing after all. What works for you might not work for me. I see that you are a proud owner of UM3X. Good for you that you like it.

I know we often hear (and describe) things differently. I just don't recall anyone stating the UM3X were "pretty dark".

BTW, I am a satisfied UM3X owner, yes - a proud owner, no.

So having been using the ES5 for a few weeks now, I have been very satisfied with them. I mostly listen with them through the iAudio 7, and listen mostly to pop, so I am wondering if there is another recommendation for a better DAP? I don't really want to go with something that needs a portable amp since that kinda defeats the purpose, kinda. I have been hearing a lot about the HM601, is that a good choice with the ES5? Are there any other suggestions? Thanks!
