Sending in the W4 and buying their supplied cables = postage of w4 + $149.99(including cable) - $15 impression kit + getting professional impressions which will very likely save money in refits (at least $50, $100 more reasonable) + $12.99 shipping back. Add in any refits + postage required.

Please go to the website BEFORE you post hyped titles, even if you use the impression kit and somehow get it right, it'll cost you at least $180 (if you are in the US).

EDIT: With turn around time being 6-8 weeks, and if you use the impression kit, it'll take at least 2 weeks turn around time. You're looking at more than 2 months, if refits are required, you can guess how long that would take.

Westone customer service has offered the following replacement options, given my situation. All have a 1 year warranty:

Westone40 $250.00
Westone30 $200.00

Westone20 $150.00

Westone10 $100.00

From the tone of this thread, it sounds like many would reccomend best value for price at the $200 for the W30.

thoughts?

Anyone disagree that the best choice is the W30 for $200?

I  have both the W30 and the W40 and I would not want to let either one go. They are different, but both are quite good and that is excellent pricing.

Sorry, I guess that's not much help.

I have the W4R and once had the W3. The W3 signature (relative to the W4) has much more midbass, recessed mids, and sharper highs which some people find sibilant (I never had that issue). The W4R is more balanced and the W3 is more V shaped.

From what I have read, there is not much difference between the latest models to the previous versions. That being said, if you are looking for a more v shaped sound, go for the W30. If you really liked the W4, I would say go for the W40 as there is a possibility you might be disappointed with the W30. Is there any chance that you can try the W30 or W3?

thanks for the reply. I'll have to choose one vs. the other. I did have the W3 prior to the W4 and found the V shape disappointing as I listen to a lot of Latin and accoustic music which emphasizes the mids, albeit more fun when listening to hip-hop. The W4 neutral sound was great. That being said, I imagine you'll say pay the extra $$ and go with the W40?
