I have heard the custom VE8 are pure bliss and I've demoed the universal demo versions. They are absolutely stellar. I don't know of an iem that does male vocals better.
The Solaris SE (and by extension the Andro MW10, as they share the same mids driver) are my personal favorite for male vocals, over both Elysium and the VE8. Mark Knopfler, Morrissey and Sinatra have never sounded better to me than through the SE.
Re Ely, anyone experimenting with shallow tip insertion? I put a spacer o-ring on each stem and slapped on medium spirals ++. Sounds to me like Ely voices larger and brighter. Good!
I had the opportunity to listen to VE8 before, but just got them home.
I have to say I never heard them like that.
Synergy with Hiby R8 and Eletech Plato is just great
Im considering either the ve8 or elysium to use with wm1z, n8 and possibly a hiby r8. Which is best for someone who listens to lots of different genres e.g jazz, classical, metal, idm. rock....
Im considering these ve iems and legend x

I can't imagine a more distinct contrast than between the LX and the VE IEMs. I've owned the VE8, LX and currently own the Elysium-- and that's what would get my vote here. Miles Davis and Metallica have never sounded better to my ears.

The Legend X would be my pick for Metal (using the R8), IDM and probably classical. I'd choose the VE8 over it for rock and jazz. I can't comment on the Elysium unfortunately as I haven't heard it. It's said to be less 'warm' than the VE8 though with a clarity focused treble and an expansive midrange. I'd imagine it would play well with Rock, Jazz and Classical quite well.
I am in the opposite boat I would recommend Elysium for metal music (where there is a lot going on) over Legend X. Legend X was too much bass for me (double bass drums - it could be overwhelming) while in Elysium you have got a lot of air.
Never tried VE8, so cannot comment on these.

Ely is amazing for metal. Through the M8 you can clearly hear all of Cliff Burton's basslines on Master of Puppets...even down to the sound of his fingers plucking the strings...it's quite incredible.

The Legend X sounds incredible with metal via the AKM side of my SE200 and the Plussound Silver+Gold cable. I can imagine that it would tend to mush together with the stock Ares copper cable and a warmer source though.
