Violectric HPA V281 - Vorsprung durch Balanced (September 2023 Update: Limited Reissue Edition up for preorder!)

I updated my previous post, apparently the more realistic estimate is for a late December delivery. The list of upgrades has grown and will thus take some time to fully implement.

As for the potentiometer, I suspect it will make a small but worthwhile impact on the sound. But also offer a quality of life improvement for those who disliked the relay noise of the OG version.

… for an ‘ultrafirst’ world problem … 😯🧐

The big news to me is the second RCA input. That and the 4.4 balanced headphone jack. I'd like to see a photo of the back. I can't imagine where they're going to find room for the second input. Maybe the connectors will go where the dac connections would have been? Appearance-wise it should look just like my F.E. amp. I just thought of something, if mine is the Final Edition is this the Final Final Edition? And finally (no pun intended) it seems the 4.4 jack will replace one of the 6.3 jacks on the front. Could there be any way to retrofit a 4.4 jack to my V281?

Hi, for me having the Pentacon 4.4 isn't that important, adapters are sold. It's nice to know that the amplifier circuit hasn't changed, it means that the amplifier is truly excellent and is fully appreciated by the audiophile community.

I know, I have the 4.4 to XLR adapter. It would be nice to not need it. Not enough reason to upgrade of course, but I've always thought having two 6.3 connections is pretty irrelevant

In classic V281, I like not having the 4.4mm pentagram pentaconn. I enjoy comparing headphones via the two 6.3mm TRS connections. 😀

I understand the 4.4 in the new V281, they want it to last forever and have everything on it w/o using adapters or anything

I think it is great

I thought they were supposed to be out of phase?

The left TRS is 180 degrees out of phase. So if I look directly away from V281 while listening, this should offset 🤪😅

I use an adapter that converts the balanced XLR to balanced 4.4 female connector. But I agree that 4.4 is a new standard that will endure, in my opinion. I use the XLR for my cables for the most part., but I have the 4.4 balanced adapter, and a 3.5 single ended adapter, and can use just about any headphone.

A good addition. Although I don’t feel a need to upgrade from the OG V281, which is already great.
