blah blah blah

Since you're so hung up on having VE release giant-killers for peanuts, here's a gift for you: the Ultima player for the VE Monk--pair its DSP with the $5 Monk and hear it make mincemeat of the Sennheiser Orpheus!
https://www.dropbox.com/s/awe6nzf1h73bw6e/foobar2000%20for%20VE%20Monk%201st%20gen.zip?dl=0

Just unzip the package, double click on foobar2000 in the unzipped directory to run, drag songs into this customized foobar build for Windows PCs (or have it scan your computer for songs), plug your Monk in and press play--everything is set and ready to go!

If for some reason you want to pay a hundred some more bucks for the same ultimate giant-killing experience, here's the Ultima player configured for the VE Zen:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/tqnzwklkxoj3bkj/foobar2000%20for%20VE%20Zen.zip?dl=0

Back in reality for real owners of the VE Monk and Zen:

I've had both of these buds for awhile now, you may like to try these players to see if you get a nice further improvement in sound? I tuned them using no foams on either buds, so you may want to try taking off any foams before trying the player too.

If you like the sound there are other programs for applying the same process on Androids and iPhones (e.g. connecting a USB DAC/amp to them), which I may detail if there's enough interest.

Hey Joe!

If I am already a Foobar user, is this as simple as dropping the .dll file into the components folder for my existing install?

No, you'd need to install a VST adapter, point it to the Electri-Q dll and then get it to load the headphone profile preset somehow (latter step hangs 9 times out of 10 using the stock foobar VST adapter  ). Why not try the portable package first?

So just unzip and run from within the folder? No other changes to make? I'm a Foobar noob. Thanks.

*blush* Thanks Joe. Sometimes these things are right under our noses...LMAO.

Are you listening directly from your PC's headphone out, or feeding through a DAC and Amp? I have the lineout on my PC feed into a vintage Advent Model 300 amp...I get some hiss I never had before that isn't noticeable when music starts up. Not sure if that's an existing thing, will test later. Sounds delightful though...

I'm feeding through the FiiO E17 DAC and the FiiO E17 amp... /sales pitch :p

That hiss you hear now is probably part of the recording... I boosted the highs a bit, as I heard some rolloff above 10kHz.

No such thing as universally best :p  Depends on what your needs are.

For example for 500 USD or less you can get:

- second hand Sennheiser IE800 with some searching and bargaining
- Second hand DITA Answer with some searching and bargaining

- Dunu DN2000J
- Fidue A83
- ortofon eq8
- Final Audio Heaven Series
- In ear Stage Diver SD2 SD3 SD4
- JVC FX850, FX1200
- Audio Technica CKR9LTD, CKR10
- Audio Technica IM02 IM03 IM04
- Sony MDR EX1000, MDR 7550, XBA Z5

I just wanted to highlight that there are limitless options and what may be best for one, might not work so well for you :)

Yea but none of these are for Bass head, except the Z5

Would love to read your thoughts on the Zen and Monk :)  I was running the Zen out of my E17 on 12 gain dB gain and it was fantastic. I liked using the foams tho, gave a nice meatier sound. And easier on the ears comfort wise :p
