USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best

Which dac would you recommend to use with iPad Pro via USB-C with a pair of HD650?

Looking for a dongle or something more?

I've used a Hidizs Sonata HDII with my HD650 and it's perfectly fine for low volume listening, but if I want to crank it and feel bass impact then my Topping NX4DSD is clearly the better choice.

My preferred choice would be something with the same form factor as iBasso DC01, so that I can use the tablet while listening. It can be bigger than that, but not like the Topping, would take up too much space in the bag unfortunately.

If you want some real power in a dongle-like form factor with basically compromise-free SQ, then the 9038S/D is the way to go.
The Meizu Pro, non Pro, and Ztella all manage 30mW @ 32Ohm. The Sonata II sits at 60mW @ 32Ohm but the 9038S and D manage a comfortable 340mW @32Ohm. Additionally, it sounds noticeably better.

That one looks perfect - especially the D variant with an 3.5mm. I'll keep an lookout for when they start to sell.

Thanks everyone!

Do you think 9038S is much better than Ztella SQ wise? I am expecting to get Ztella by X-Mas. Shall I try 9038 too?

There is no reason to believe that the Ztella sounds any better than the Meizu. They're basically the same device except for that the Ztella has an indicator LED and we don't know yet if it has HW volume control like the Meizu.
I own both the Meizu non pro and the 9038S and I can tell you that the 9038S sounds noticeably more detailed. It's not a huge step since the Meizu DAC already offers great performance, but it's definitely there.

The Ztella has ESS Sabre DAC and MQA, so I'm assuming it would be better than the Meizu pro version, especially if one is listening through Tidal

I really don't see how the ESS chip could possibly be better than the Cirrus Chip and you can listen to MQA Tidal through UAPP.

Drawback of the Meizu ones is that they don't run asynchronously and the of the 9038S it is that it doesn't have hardware volume, so the audio output is scaled by Android. I got the DC01, which does have hardware volume, has a balanced output and can output DSD 256, which is nice.
I ordered the ZTella as well, because it can do the second unfold of MQA. Don't know if it has hardware volume or asynchronous support though. I would love one that has both MQA support and a balanced output.
