Unique Melody Bone Conduction Family (MEST&MEXT and their siblings) Announcement and Impression Thread.

The MusicTeck version is the standard version which we are selling them in all the regions. JP exclusive version is a limited edition, and it was required by the distributor in Japan. We equally value all customers, but we are just lack of experience in the western market. The extra mid-bass is more like a side-effect of the extra induction port which was designed for extra comfort in long listening sessions. We didn't tune that way. So the change in the mid-bass is minimal to none, and it is quite ear-shape depending based on the customer feedback. Meanwhile, we are thinking about designing a Western version (as required) that focuses more on bass, dynamic, and sound density in mid without sacrifices too much in clarity and overall balance.

I would purchase the JP version, if made available on MusicTeck

As a summary, MEST bone conduction technology has the following features:
  • No standalone sound tunnels for bone conduction drivers.
  • Sound can be heard by touching any parts of the shell.
Anyone ever tried the "Sound can be heard by touching any parts of the shell" feature of the BC driver?

I just receive my MEST yesterday, and this is the first thing i try, because im very curious with this tech.

But i find that didnt work in my set. Is my BC driver didnt work?

just to make clear. i already try to press the shell (and seal the nozzle with finger to prevent sound leak from the nozzle) on my cheek bone, softbone outer ear, or back of my ear, but i heard no sound.

(i see other BC earphone that works only by pressing the driver to the cheek bone)

We only released the JP exclusive version for MEST. There are some minor tuning adjustments in the bass and mid.
Hi, interesting stuff, but I guess since HBB review on youtube, now most are interested in the JP version, and for us getting it is a pain who live outside Japan

So will you re tune the original version to sound like the JP version, as now I am confused what you next move will be for the MEST, or are you releasing a whole new version to replace MEST

Lol, I watched that great review too. I'm really glad that he likes MEST JP. IMO, the differences between JP and the standard version are not that big, mainly in the upper frequency tho.
In the future, there is a large chance that we will release a MEST special edition that will only be available for the western community (like the JP version for Japan). The tonality for the MEST SE will suit more towards the popular genres in the West. I have made a simple wordcloud from the data I collected in the past surveys. I hope that makes sense.

Will this Tri DD be a flagship product? Meaning will it be something to be considered as TOTL? How can I be notified when its ready?
The tri-DD is still in the developing phase, I don't have much info now. But I will let you know once I hear back from our R&D team.

Hi there!

I am super interested in these, and I am just curious about the Japan version. When you say the difference is in the upper frequencies, is the Japan version brighter or darker? Thanks for your time.

It's a great approach. checking with the community what they want is always good. but my 1c comment is just to be careful to not fall within the "same same but different" trend where it will sound the same as everything else.

Thank you for the advice. It is also our main concern. After all, we are "Unique Melody".

Hi, may I know where can I audit the MEST in hong kong?
Currently, our HK dealers do not have MEST in stock. We are finalizing a new dealer in HK which will have MEST in stock very soon. Let me get back to you when I have any updates.

Personally, I can't answer your question exactly because of the 3 cables you've mentioned, I've only heard Plato, and then only very briefly (and on a $4.5k IEM).
So far, the cables I own are mostly in the lower range of the price spectrum; Ares II 8-wire, a thicker gauge Ares II+, and the Eletech Prudence.

What I can say is that with some IEM's I've reviewed, using those cables can result in an immediately noticeable change in sound signature.
However, I didn't find that so much with the MEST. Couldn't say why; perhaps it shows the quality of the MEST's stock cable :)

For more bass, I think either of those Ares II cables I mentioned, or any variant of the Effect Audio Thor II cable (4-wire, 8-wire, thicker gauge + model) should achieve that without compromising the other great qualities of the MEST.
I suspect the EA Lionheart could be an enticing pair-up, since it's said to add note weight, thickness, richness and musicality, although it's possible it might reduce the soundstage and separation too, making for a slightly more intimate feel.
I was thinking to buy a used one on here, and by the time I stopped hesitating and made up my mind, it was gone already. You snooze, you lose :joy:
I've also heard good things about the Plussound EXO gold-silver 8 wire cable (I'm reciting the name from memory, so I may not have got it right).

You'd have to look at reviews on here for the cables you mentioned, but my impressions from passively noticing impressions posted is that they seem to be ones that generally tighten up the signature and add resolution, detail, clarity and extension. Not sure if any of them will very significantly increase the low end impact/rumble/slam?
But let's see what other people with experience of them can say :)

Might the Odin cable fit MEST securely, ignoring the change in signature?
