Interested in buying the best there is. I am after a closed headphone that is portable and will sound fantastic from an ipod, ipad and an Arcam/Sonos system. I would prefer not to use an amp. I seem to keep coming back to the Ultrasound Edition 9's. Has anybody used these with an ipod without an amp? Views? Thank you.

WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOUR YOUR THREAD TITLE IS TOO LOUD. COME AGAIN?  I'M SORRY, ONE MORE TIME?
 
 
and you don't want the E8 because? Will probably sound fine out of an iPod, albeit not the best. When I had my Pro 750 (same impedance and sensitivity I think) sounded good, but not their best straight out of my iPod.
 
 
Real hi-fi on the run is via IEMs.

They will probably sound about as good as fullsize headphones can get unamped out of an iPod, but not anywhere near worth the price tag. You're kinda wasting your money if you don't have an amp.
Like stated above, if you want HiFi sound on the go without an amp, IEMs are better. (and CHEAPER!)
