Ultrasone Signature DJ

I owned both the Sig DJ and Edition 8 for a while before I had to sell them to purchase a new computer. I enjoyed the Edition 8’s even more in every sound category and build quality. And especially comfort. I am using Grado ps500e right now which are really great for jazz and metal. If I was searching for a headphone in the price class you are talking about I wouldn’t mind trying the Focal Clear. Maybe save a bit of cash and try out the Dan Clark Audio Aeon Flow 2. They sell an open and closed back version of that one.

Years later and I'm still loving my Sig DJs. With the ZMF cowhide pads they're extremely comfy even wearing glasses.
As I'm using them more often for conference video calls and soon podcasting, I do kinda wish they were black instead of white.

I'm finding myself interested in getting the Signature Studio's as a complimentary pair that is more neutral.
Anyone have any experiences with both? I know the DXP's are probably more like a newer V-shaped equivalent of the DJs. Though I do love the look of the grey too, I feel like it'd just be a worse version / downgrade of the Sig DJs.

But for monitoring applications and possibly some music production/mixing, the Studios seem like a better fit?

It seems like the Adam/Ultrasone SP-5's are not loved by most.... which is a shame because I love Adam (I have A7X monitors)...

I'll wait for others to talk about the Sig Studio, as I haven't had the opportunity to try those yet. I'd like to though...

Just chiming in to talk about the DXP's, as sound wise they aren't a side or downgrade to the DJ. The DXP's are far more mid-focused than any other Signature series headphone, and fully live up to the signature name in terms of sound quality. Far from neutral though. Mids and Bass are boosted quite a bit, so probably not what you are looking for regardless. Until someone with a Sig Studio chimes in, here's some links to a helpful site I used to determine the sound differences of the signature line while I was researching the DXP. Halfway down the pages on the right side are graphs for each headphone, and they proved to be very accurate when I was comparing the DJ to the DXP. This should give an idea of what to expect from the Studio vs the DJ, at least in terms of sound signature:

Thanks, these are great.

Yes, upon doing a little more research it seems that the Sig Studios & Adam SP-5's are very similar. I'm interested in the Adams because it sounds like they have deeper pads than DXPs (according to this review) and everyone says they have excellent isolation.

Both the Studios & SP-5's I would expect to sound quite bright and not have the levels of bass I love from the DJs for enjoying music. However for mixing/mastering, and hosting a podcast which I will be doing soon, this complimentary brighter/more revealing detailed headphone may be something to look for. I also have Fostex THX00 PurpleHearts which I love and do have nice detail also, but are far from 'neutral'/natural response (both the Sig DJ's and Fostex are obviously quite V-shaped but with excellent-quality boosted sub bass which is my preferred sound signature for music listening seeing as I listen to so much electronic music).

Is the clamping of the dxp greater than the DJ model? I’ve been using Sennheiser hd-25’s for 21 years and love the immediacy of the track at low volume when cueing, the sig DJ isn’t as immediate due to weaker clamp pressure. Wondering if DXP would be a better choice, or if the pressure can be upped??

Clamp pressure is the same between DXP and DJ (just tested).

Awesome. That helps.

do you know yourself, or elsewhere, if there’s a wY to increase clamp pressure. Apparently, my head is smaller than I thought! Go figure!! Lol
Clamping pressure can be increased by first moving the ear pieces of center from each other and pushing them inwards. Then, finding the center in the headband, push thumb against the underside, apply pressure to the palms of your hands and bend inwards. Reverse to lessen clamping force.

Guess the headband is bendable metal underneath. I have a vid from Ultrasone support if anyone wants it.

In my experience owning all three at the moment, the DJ is the bassiest and the Studio is the flattest. The DXP is a good compromise in between but personally I enjoy the varied nature of all three.
