My vote is bit premature because it is based on my short term evaluation of edition 9 which should be superior ultras, but D5000 with jpads fit perfectly for my taste. I am sure ultras are amazing headphones but so far they leave me flat or maybe my love for d5000 is so big it makes me blind

This thread is a bit old, but I thought I'd contribute since I have both headphones.
 
I appreciate both headphones in what they offer, the stock pro900's and stock d5k's. Being a basshead, I prefer the d5k's over the 900's. However, the 900's do offer a more forward sound signature than the d5k's. The d5k's are more laid back with lots-o-bassss, mmm. Each headphone has their own strengths, but I prefer the d5k's.

pro 900s are terrible along with all the other ultrasones ed8 should cost $400 then it might be worth buying. if i wanted crappy quality bass i could just go sit in a car and enjoy away.

That must mean the K701's and the HD650(with silver dragon v2 cable) are absolute crap because my ALO-780's piss all over them

its all subjective but i dont like either of the above either.i think  i would pick 780s over the latter also.
