From the pictures looks is around the size of the LE hard case... or is smaller?

Ed.8 is more than enough for bass head. its bass is tight and deep and punchy. actually it can get a bit bloated when it comes to bass heavy songs.

My edition 8 hinge squeaks like hell
It's the black cushion sticker rubbing against the ruthenium finish
Anyone else have this problem? It's driving me up the wall!

I cured a NASTY squeak on my mint Yamaha HP-1 orthodynamics ball joint hinges with the tiniest amount of Silicone Grease, applied with fine-tipped electronics q-tips. It doesn't eat plastics, and you don't need much at all.

I also found it effective in deadening  squeaks from a headband strap at the point it retracted into the headband  end. I hardly used any.
It's cheap, but don't use too much, at your local hardware store. Around $5 for a lifetime's supply.

If you use too much I am not sure how you'd go about removing it.

Have a look through some posts to see if you want to try it first.

Silicone spray lube was recommended here. Apparently leaves no residue. http://www.head-fi.org/t/367383/wd-40-for-headphones#post_4792935

I'm just going to go ahead and assume these Edition 8's kick my Pro2500's to the curb... would this be a correct assumption?
If so how much of a kick do you figure? A nice sidestep sweep, or a running full-on toepunt across four lanes of traffic and through the plate glass reinforced storm windows?

I decided to go with the Burson HA-160. Does anyone know what's a fair price for a used one? Brand new, it sells for $599 shipped http://www.partsconnexion.com/bur_ha160.html

Yep THAT sound.
That peaking part of the sound, the highest pitched part, was the same thing I had on the Yamaha, except from what I can tell watching that video with the sound up,it was worse on mine. Worse than scratching a blackboard. Could not even wear them much due to it making the noise each time my head shifted.
Try out the silicone option. You may have to use the spray if you do and angle the thin tube into that hinge area it seems tight
Just my two cents

Good point. Send them back /exchange. Shouldn't have to do anything to them when you paid that much.

The retailer actually opened another brand new set....  they squeak just the same... The rutheniums..

Pity..  these look and sound so good. They were gonna be my ultimate all-rounder for both home and portables.

I'll just wait and see what Ultrasone Germany has to say about this before I contact my retailer who are extremely friendly and helpful guys.

Weird that we've never heard of that issue before...
