Its a more intimate experience but not bad by any means, just average.

There's nothing wrong with intimate IEMs or cans per se. I like them spacious, but close vocals on some music have their own appeal, of course as long as a recording's space itself doesn't feel stuffy. Hope this makes sense :)

TRN ST5 review by Porta.Fi. One of the most reliable and unbiased reviewers imo.

That price...

I mean considering that the Shiman Li is priced at around 30 dollars I wonder if they will be losing money selling this.
Consider that the MT1 which this presumably will replace. Was the competitor to the KZ EDX and often came in a two for one deal for $2 more than the single price. NOT a quality product where no expense was spared! :triportsad:

I think it is a copycat of the Shimin Li and they are just too lazy to give it a new name perhaps. The metal shells are not too cheap to make (like a DIY pair of metal shells cost about RMB50) that's why I wonder how they are making any profit. The MT1 was pretty bad so hopefully this is not just a replacement.

The Shimin Li was quite meh TBH. Tonally it was a bit wonky, with a one-noted textureless bass with shouty upper mids and early treble roll-off.

Not too high a bar to clear, the Shimin Li wasn't talked about after the first 2 weeks, so that's an indication of the interest (or lack thereof) about it.

From what I can tell, threads of products liked by the community the most tend to get hundreds of pages and remain active for months if not years.

No doubt. The volume of discussion is the “proof” in the pudding.

That said, the Shimin Li is not a bad set. It just isn’t especially different to stand out.

That's good I think, considering that the community decides what's hot and what isn't.

I just googled these IEMs and I have to say that visually they look very nice for a $35 product.

Ok got mine as well. Just can't resist budget IEMs with metal shells.

The shell surface finishing is not as good as the ST5, TA1 Max and BAX (no sand blast I think). Smaller than the ST5 by maybe 30% and fits my ears better. The sunken filter placement is kind of odd, probably part of the design to alter the resonance position (?). OOTB, very nice sounding already with my default tips Fiio HS18. I wonder how it compares to the upper line models. Not a MT1 replacement btw, sounds very different to my ears.

Not sure how it's gonna sound like after burn-in but OOTA this needs power IMO but the tuning is good anyway. Low gain sounds alright but medium gain sounds a lot more balanced to my ears. Perhaps the Ti-coated DD is really quite stiff.
