TRINITY - PHANTOM Series - New thread + WORLDS FIRST PUSH PULL HYBRID IEM!*

Well , for me I think it was a combination of very little sleep, getting in to much of a hurry to find the proper combo of filter/tip for my taste, strictly going by the filter quite description posted on the Trinity site thus not at least trying certain filters, since the SpinFit tips seem to slide easier in the ear using those only, and being much more mentally present. Been listening to the Icarus III since switching and just can't believe the great sound. I think I will be trying the gold (undamped) filters on my Hunter now.

Thanks must go to @IamMe90 for waking me up!
Yeah, the combination of the number of factors is the key, but probably the decisive one is the choice of the filter, provided that the seal is optimal. It sounds to me like the Icarus III came with some (purple) damped filter; the Master IEM came with red filter which sounded really muffled to me.
In general I have abandoned most of those more (heavily so to speak) damped filters even on the Master, I think what might have done the trick in your case must have been the use of the undamped filter. It might be so that the Icarus III has less tendency for "sibilance" and as such lends itself perhaps more to the undamped filters. What is really nice to hear is that the Icarus III seems to be more robust in terms of stronger amplification.

Having said all of this, curious whether the Miko, IamMe or remiam7 or any of you have used the chinese FLC 8 IEM, since it has been reported as superior in terms of the clarity, and has 36 tuning options with the built in screw(s) system. Sounds really convenient to be able to tweak the sound on the go, but still, nowhere near the rebated prices of the Master and Icarus III

It's the one filter that really stands out from the rest of them. The sound delta is dramatic
Well, I have to say this sound really remarkable, that one filter can be so superior in ears of the several headfiers, really interesting to hear.
Lookong forward to receive the Master, if they are on their way; they should be according to my preorder nr. If the Trinity goes by the preorder numbers, which might be a big if. I do hate to speculate on this subject, but still...

Yeah, I think you are spot on with this comment. For me I would have never ever tried any filter that was undamped as I really thought those would be the only ones to eliminate any form of sibilance. I was completely wrong. Much happier with the gold (undamped) filter! And I agree listening through my Pono Player with a little more amplification makes a differance.

I can only say that at one time I came very close to purchasing the FLC 8, but went with Trinity. Perhaps eventually though.

While I generally like the cans with more impedance (have read somewhere that they exert more stable characteristics inherently), and thus (unrelated inherently to the impedance regarding the Icarus III vs the Master IEM) liking what I read here about Icarus III regarding the amplification, my impression of the Master is and was that they have really sufficient robustness in terms of being ampified, they respond well to more power. I never needed to crank them up to max with either Dragofly Red DAC nor with Audioengine D3. On couple of odd occasions I have reached the disto level only with Audioengine D3, never with Audioquest Dragonfly Red, while retaining more than sufficient listening volume, never quite the max.

I am new to Trinity IEMs and just received my Icarus III....The small hard-to-read (light gray font on white paper?) booklet does not give much info on how the "filters" work. It looks like the "undamped" have different size Orifices while the damped is the same thing but with damping material installed?. I put the undamped golds on there and the little bugers sound pretty good... real surprised at their Bass response... Is the damping material all the same?? My previous IEM's are some custom Ultimate Ears and also a pair of Triple-fi 10 Pros also from Ultimate Ears...

If anyone can recommend how one might evaluate the different filters, I'd be grateful ....

Cheers,
Larry

There is a section, or the page at Trinity Audio called "filters explained", you should be able to find it if it is still there...

I've nearly bought them a few times but I kept pre-ordering everything from Trinity instead  for the rebate prices these are excellent IEMs, but at MSRP I wouldn't give them a second thought

The white acoustic dampers are a mesh membrane at the entry of the filter and also on the bass port in the groove of the filter, they generally close the sound in and limit treble extension which also decreases the soundstage and imaging

The black acoustic dampers are only plugs that sit in the filter, they limit some of the highs but still let you retain some treble extension for that BA sparkle

I'm surprised how much of the volume pot I need on my amp with the i3

I think I'm going to keep them, I think they're perfect for exercising or working on stuff in the garage

The gold undamped are really balanced but the silvers have a nice and full low end, it's not overwhelming and doesn't build pressure either, I don't hear a difference in mids or highs between them either
