I was on the fence waiting for a review on this at $799 (Just got a Gustard R26 but within return period so could justify this and a Holo Audio Red potentially...assuming a decent review or two from users). With the price hike it's just not worth it.
At $800 it was interesting, jacking the price up $200 a day after launch and a bit of hype starting (partly due to the $800 price in conjunction with the holo association) makes it much less interesting. Would recommend the Cyan2+HQPlayer or similar at that point ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hqp requires a license and a whole back end for any serious sample rates and filter lengths nevermind dedicated hardware. You may as well buy a May KTE at that point

see my previous reply to @MillionAntz for an explanation of my original post. There are other free upsampling and EQ options out there, which is why I said HQplayer or similar.

The increase might have also been a price adjustment in preparation for the tariffs in the US market. Companies have a habit of basing the MSRP on the USD pricings. I am not a fan of Topping, but we shall see how well this DAC sells/performs.
Well that's a different situation as there is non integer resampling taking place. So that could easily be why rather than anything to do with the EQ itself
Good point. One would think that by now any publicly revealed pricing would account for tariffs, but that might not be the case as companies line up their financial "tribute" to the tariff wizard. Personally, I've spent way too much money in preparation for Chi-Fi prices to go up. I'm okay with waiting for the reviews on this DAC to start pouring in before i make a purchasing decision. A Holo DAC ladder sounds enticing, but I don't need a DAC right now.
I know, that's the joke. They got greedy after ASR hypocrites began lusting after it. Now they want those extra 200 bucks from their groomed customer base who buys DACs like GPUs.This price hike is silly but let's not act like they raised it soley because of ASR. That is s
The price hike is fishy, especially with the hype it was garnering. That being said let's not just throw baseless speculation pulled from the depths of our ass. ASR is horrible but come on, acting like Topping made a widespread business decision because of ASR is hilariously dumb.
I'd imagine the EQ implementation on the A6 and A8 would be the exact same. Wouldn't make sense for them to develop two different implementations.
My point was just that if enabling the feature at all causes a change in sound, something else is happening. Possibly resampling given as its android based.
Whereas other implementations like roon wouldn't cause this.
So I'm just saying that this isn't the fault of EQ or evidence that EQ causes a change in sound besides the adjustments you make, but just that there's other modifications to the signal happening (possibly) besides EQ in that particular example

The A6 EQ is software based and does not resample to 48 kHz. The original DSP on the A8 is performed in one of the DAC section chips and does involve resampling to 48 kHz. I believe from A8 contributors on the Eversolo Forum that the A6 version is now also on the A8 and called EQ to distinguish from the DSP option there from the start, perplexing but apparently the case.
So I kind of did a YOLO and blind bought this yesterday cause I was looking at a Cyan 2 and seeking to reduce my desk space setup down. Apparently because I did, I got locked in at that lower price and they're gonna honor it.
