TOPPING Centaurus: A New Benchmark in R2R DACs

R2R DAC shots fired! I hope the sound quality lives up to this feature set. I've not tried out any Topping DAC before but an R2R one would be too tempting to resist.

Quite excited about this! Hopefully will be able to get a unit for review. I loved the cyan 2, so if this is really similar but with built in OS, and PEQ at a lower price that's going to be killer

And it also includes the latest in SOTA DAC technology: a touch-sensitive input select button! :sunglasses:

For those who are interested in the PEQ function, the minimum step size of the topping tune software is 0.5 dB, way less accurate than the software EQ solutions like Equalizer APO which can do 0.1 dB. They haven't improved it so far with the firmware update.

Hi, where is the info from that the R2R module inside is the same as the Cyan2's?

thanks
You can see from the pcb itself. But I also spoke to Tim about it

I'm surprised that Holo is seemingly not worried about cannibalizing sales of the more expensive Cyan 2?
Makes me wonder if corners have been cut somewhere

Interesting. Since it's sort of a special collaboration, I imagine they'd try to apply their best quality control to the run. Which would overcome the wariness I feel about buying from Topping or SMSL these days; hit and miss QC coupled with negligible after-sales service. I don't wanna throw my money away on a disposable item, just so that I can buy the next DAC that comes out in a couple of months.

Cyan 2 is a brick for HQP users. This is a much more functional product but you have to get past the cognitive dissonance it's a Topping not a Holo.

.... perhaps the Topping name has anti-value .... 🤷🏻‍♂️

That was quick…price now $999.-!
At that price point I would always go for the Cyan. Topping products are known to lose value pretty quickly. I guess the LIMITED edition of the Topping DX9 is still sitting on the shelves with lots of dust due to its high price.
Only if Topping comes up with a very aggressive price then the Centaurus might become a successful product.

25% price increase within a day of release🤔
That's not s healthy business practice
