I honestly expected some audiophile minimalist jazz music under that link. Now imagine my surprise upon discovering Static X inside :)
Clearly you missed the point of him owing me a couple of beers (to which he graciously consented) after subjecting myself to headbanging :D

Could that be connected to what @Left Channel is talking about? How can I possibly know if the album I am listening to is legal or illegal?

No I was just talking about the record labels allowing non-master albums to become MQA releases, which Tidal calls "Masters" whether they are or not. This is legal but it's still fraud.

But MQA is supposed to mean it's been "Authenticated". So it's low quality as the artist intended.

There are different types of authentication. Often it's the current rights holders, who are not artists at all, that approve what is to be MQA'ed.

Is there any real "authentication" at all? If Warner is adding millions of MQA tracks to Tidal, it will be a server grinding through the catalog database and indiscriminately converting tracks.

I recommend listening to album S&M or S&M2.
I'm willing to give it a try. I have read the audio quality is quite excellent on those :)

If it's blue then they're not remasters by a third party. I'm not sure what green means. I'm not sure if a third party is allowed to do MQA on somebody elses material.

I have nothing against Static X. The noise of my youth :D

Enjoy your beers :D

That's my point: often the rights holders are not at all representing the original artists or their intent, and some of the stuff they have approved to put through the MQA grinder makes no sense. While listening to MQA I've come across a bassy remix that don't sound at all like the master tape, a low-res Motown cut, and other disappointments.

Sadly, this is pretty much the way show business and the music business has always been. Plenty of incredible musicians died penniless while there are empires to this day built on making a business out of selling those talents.
