Nothing to do with MQA. They removed crossfade because it was causing playback problems. It was removed from both iOS and Android but after some time got restored to iOS only.
https://www.reddit.com/r/TIdaL/comm...rossfade_feature_on_android_devices/?sort=old
The technical issue is being able to play gapless from one track to the next, and in the case of crossfade even more difficult because there is some overlap. Many music players cannot even play gapless, nevermind crossfade.

Thank you 🙏... very helpful!

Since getting A&K SR25 about 6 months ago, and using Tidal .apk for offline playback, I get this message periodically with downloaded albmums, when in Off-line mode:
IMG_2398.jpg

Any idea why the Tidal apk does this? It seems like about every month or so. Almost like the apk is trying to re-authenticate that I've got a subscription.. ? or something like that maybe???

The only remedy I've found is to switch back to online mode, and then click into each album one-by-one.

Odd thing is that playlists are not affected by this at all. Any playlist I've ever downloaded is always available in offline mode.... So I've started just putting several albums into a playlist, and downloading that for offline use. Very klunky workaround but its the best i've got for now...

Offline music expires after 30 days if you don't re-authenticate. The record labels require all streaming services to do this in their music license agreement.

OK, so I get the re-authenticate bit.

But what I don't get is that I have to "touch" every album that I've downloaded every 30 days to re-authenticate each one. Again as I mentioned, playlist content does not require this.

Apple Music and Spotify never did this to me, why does Tidal apk do this?

Logged out and logged in again to Tidal apk.

Still same BS error message when trying to access albums offline.

Seems there is no point at all in downloading any album to listen to it offline if you have to go back through ALL of them and 'touch' them again every 30 days.... but playlists do not have this bug.

Tidal, please fix this. Apple and Spotify (and probably others) have figured this out.

That seems like a bug. I doubt that Tidal is watching this thread and you can try contacting their customer support.

Hey Head-fi gang, UK pricing wars continue between Tidal and Qobuz and I'm after your opinion.

Being the generous dad that I am, I go for the Family subscription - Tidal is looking at £360 for a year, which I've had for a while now, but Qobuz have now dropped their pricing to £270 per year...

I'm finding Tidal into the Chord DAC is pretty wonderful, its digital filter does really well even if its only ever getting fed 48khz max, and mostly just 16/44.
Maybe the MQA 'studio side' treatment adds a little extra - not sure really...

When listening to Tidal on my main hi-fi rig, I do feel even on 16/44 tracks the Chord DAC sounds better than when the MQA full unfold is done internally on my integrated amp (Hegel H390) even up to 24/196.

Qobuz obviously unlocks Hi-res tracks to their full glory... Most sound blissful but I think on some tracks Tidal still edges things, but not always. Again maybe the benefit of Tidal offering different masters with that 'special sauce' studio side MQA filter being added...?

SO
£90 cheaper for Qobuz is a big factor but as I stated above, I need your opinion....
Do I stick with Tidal for the occasional buff on some albums, and frankly more relevant catalogue?
Or do I go Qobuz and be happy I get the 'standard' hi res treatment for cheaper?

ugh - £90 - comes down to catalogue and usability doesn't it!

This isn't "Highlander", where there can only be one. Give Qobuz a test run for a month or two and see how you like it. I have been using both services with Roon. There really isn't much difference in the sound quality, other than which mastered version is used. Some stuff is great, and other stuff is oddly not how I remember a particular song sounding at its best. Tis the nature of streaming, where the listener is at the mercy of the labels and what is made available to stream.

I would not be too concerned with the audio quality, they are both excellent, while not everything is what I would consider to be the best version with regards to dynamic range, this is rare and generally not an issue. Also, concerning the available library of music on each, there could be some omissions, even a few one might consider to be glaring from one service to the next; yet, these are typically local problems and are continuously evolving. Unless most of the music you love is absent, just ride with what is available because tomorrow it could change on any streaming service.

Give it a trial and maybe use Soundiz to add most of your Tidal library over.

I had intended to pick one service over another, but here I am nearly two years later still using both of them. Having a military discount with Tidal helps. I use Roon so I can enjoy what I feel is a much better interface, and it allows for me to seamlessly add any music to my catalog that I either cannot find or do not appreciate through the streaming services.

Thanks ☺️ I've also been using both for a good while but the step up to family means it doesn't pass the budget test to run both moving forward. It's interesting what you say about Roon but the cost benefit to me on a single system ? I'm not sure.. going to have to think about that.
completely recommend soundiiz as well, love the way that draws albums and playlists together onto one platform , and shows when certain tracks don't make it across

I know Tidal saves your stuff if you cancel and return several months later. If these offer monthly family plans in your region, maybe you can pick a month and switch the family to Qobuz?

For what it matters I cutover from tidal to Qobuz, mostly because of a disagreement over who owns my data with Qobuz. Tidal were telling me someone was using my account at same as me - kicking me off and inserting stuff by Jay-zee and other RnB into my recent history that I have never listened to. But Tidal refused to share the IP address of who was logged into my account - said against their privacy rules to tell me who else was logged into my account.

Qobuz on the other hand.. hmm. The sound quality is better IMO, the catalogue is fine, but the search capability is dog-poo. Looking over xmas for some entertainment, even Christmas songs when you know the artist is horrible. It's like the app search is based on the literal text and brings up any old crap even if there's a perfect match elsewhere.
Also e.g. looking for "The big Lebowski" soundtrack brings back someone else hand-curated playlist of some of the tracks from the "Big Lebowski" (~and not necessarily the ones from the soundtrack but could be the originals pre-rerecording )
Not the actual soundtrack that you'd get from practically any other service if you typed that in.

I'm on the fence TBH and not sure if I should've stuck with Tidal. The wife can't even begin to think about using the search facility.

Well that would indeed be a bad choice by Tidal. Would you want them releasing your personal information to some guy who is asking for it, for any reason? to anyone but the authorities? Most companies will have this policy.
They should provide customer service and correct the issue in some manner however, not much you can do about someone breaching your account.
