I don't get it. They are all MQA according to the MASTER icon.
No they are not. Look at the top and yiu can see 2 decoded mqa and 2 not. Just because says master doesn't mean it's mqa. When it is mqa you can see the mqa symbol in the status bar.I don't get it. They are all MQA according to the MASTER icon.
Strange that it decodes any mqa I have on my player perfect and any master of classical from tidal is decoded mqa yet nothing other than classical is decoded mqa on tidal. Show me an album other that classical on tidal that you decode mqa and shows mqa so I can see what mine does. Again just cause it says master doesn't make it mqa.Ok I see it now.
I don't believe Tidal has anything higher than Redbook that's not MQA. So I guess it's a firmware bug in your DAP.
Elton John doesn't show mqa while the classical piece does.Look at Doobie Brothers for example. A lot of Elton John albums also.
Just because it says master does not mean it is being decoded mqa.. But I dont have a desktop dac that is mqa. It's certainly a firmware bug. For one thing, when it says MASTER that means it's MQA. If I play something that's only available in Hifi Quality the desktop app shows HiFi. Again, I have never seen anything on Tidal better than 16.1/44 that is not MQA.
Can you try using the desktop app to play the same songs that you're playing on your DAP? You should make sure the desktop app is set to Master.
I think it does mean that. Anyway, you don't need a desktop DAC. What we want to see is what the desktop app thinks the song is vs. what your DAP thinks it is. The desktop app does not do the full unfold, but you will certainly be able to see if the album or song is MQA or not.Just because it says master does not mean it is being decoded mqa.. But I dont have a desktop dac that is mqa.
How can you see if there is no indication other than the album saying it is a master? And if it were a bug why would all the classical music thats masters decode fully mqa and display it yet no other albums show its mqwa when decoding but every mqa album or song I load on to the player decodes fully mqa?I think it does mean that. Anyway, you don't need a desktop DAC. What we want to see is what the desktop app thinks the song is vs. what your DAP thinks it is. I'll turn on my Windows box and answer from there. Gimme 5.How can you see if there is no indication other than the album saying it is a master?
Ok, it is as I said with the desktop app. If the album is MQA it says MASTER in a brown box. If it's hifi (Redbook) it says HIFI in a green box.How can you see if there is no indication other than the album saying it is a master? And if it were a bug why would all the classical music thats masters decode fully mqa and display it yet no other albums show its mqwa when decoding but every mqa album or song I load on to the player decodes fully mqa?
Again just because it says masters does not indicate it is decoding mqa. What do you have that indicates its decoding mqa on your equiptment. all daps that support it show the mqa icon and the bitrate its being decoded and unfolded to. Show me proof on your end its decoding and unfolding mqa on your side. Every song and album I know that are 100% mqa are shown do decode mqa. Yes there are 2 unfoldings of mqa, but why would some albums only partially unfold while all classical music thats mqa in tidal do so completely? Why would music I load on my dap unfold completely? So if all masters are mqa then its an issue on their end as the music I search for by mqa on tidal decode correctly yet other masters dont..Ok, it is as I said with the desktop app. If the album is MQA it says MASTER in a brown box. If it's hifi (Redbook) it says HIFI in a green box.
Here's the same album in two different versions, first MQA second one hifi

If you open these in the web app you may or may not get MQA support. I'm going strictly by the desktop app and I can verify anything with my Brooklyn DAC+.
As far as why your DAP doesn't work like it should, it's a firmware bug. Contact the manufacturer or find a thread for it here if there is one.
