Hi, I was wondering about opinions on upgrades in the $300-500 range from AKG MKII's. I really liked the way they sounded, other than seemingly absent of bass. I had bought an amp off ebay that a guy had built, but it added noticeable noise. I like a natural sound without tinny, harsh highs. I was debating whether to send the AKG's off for repair (they suddenly just stop working a few days after being soaked with gatorade), or to get something with a bit fuller sound down low. What does a good quality amp cost? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Very cool forum.

A good amp will add some bass, and shouldn't add noticeable noise, as long as you have a clean source.  If your source is noisy, then it will amplify your noisy source (a computer as source can be very noisy, depending on a lot of factors).

An amp for these should be in the $2-300 range, however I think you should try a different headphone entirely.  Possibly a Denon, but I don't remember very well what their highs are like.
