I've honestly had a hard time deciding (that's after having owned both for the last few months), which is why I still have both!Thank you for taking the time, highly appreciated! If you only could keep one amp MK or Tsu for the SP3k, which one would you keep? (Price not taken into consideration)
MK475: Has more power (so it can be used to drive some full-size headphones); transients are a little more incisive; soundstage is a little wider; tuning is just a little bit more U-shaped (not a huge amount) -- i.e., the bass hits a bit harder and there's and there's just a little bit more treble; and the dynamics are a little better.
Tsuranagi: The smaller size and integrated battery are huge advantages -- I can actually fit it into the pocket of my sweatpants, strapped to the SP3k, for moving around the house. Raw technical performance is just a little bit behind the 475, but the tuning is just a little more balanced; the mids are a little bit better (vocals have a touch more warmth); the transients are less incisive, but that's not necessarily a bad thing because I don't always want razor-sharp transients; there might be just a bit more soundstage depth.
I'm of the impression that most people who've A/Bed them prefer the MK475 due to the technicals. I do think it can depend on genres -- e.g. I typically lean to the 475 for, say, EDM, where I'd want the extra slam and sharp transients, and the Tsuranagi for vocal-heavy music where I'd want slightly more warmth. But we're splitting hairs here, because they both sound fantastic and I could very happily live with either. The differences I'm describing aren't massive.
I'd say it also depends a bit on the IEM. With the Rn6/Xe6, I think I prefer the Tsuranagi because the bass with the MK475 can be a little much. With the Ragnar I prefer the MK475 because the Ragnar has crazy good technicals, & the MK475 does a better job of maxing out those technicals. And the extra bass with the MK475 is very welcome on the Ragnar.
I think I'd pick the Tsuranagi if I could only have one, because the technical performance is 90% as good as the MK475 while providing the size/weight/tuning advantages. But I very much enjoy the 475 for when I want max. technical performance.
