Keeps floating around my head too. I keep repeating I don't need it - I don't want it and hope it helps.

The only way to truly resist the temptation is to buy it and use it until you are bored by it.

The best part after a big event. Sanitizing, cleaning, drying each IEM before putting them away. I really need more than 1 UV drying box.😅

Lookin' Spick and Span... do you mind sharing your ritual on keepin them so clean?

So I’ve come to realize that vented IEMs aren’t ideal for isolation on flights… Am thinking I might need to buy something specificaly for that use case. I had the SE846 for the longest time, and that isolated very well. Etymotic as well, prior to that.

I could re-buy one of those. But what do you guys use on planes? How’s the Z1R for isolation? (I do have Z1R-compatible ears).

I use Etymotic with grey foam tips on planes. As I guess you know as a former owner, they isolate just about as well as full fledged earplugs.

Thanks so much @s2kphile !
Really enjoyed demoing your iems and hearing your thoughts!

This weekend, I visited local Schiit meet up (Bay area) and demoed some IEM that S2kphile brought..
Turi Ti(My favorite#1)
Sooo good(ethereal)high mid and treble! Like Type7 Erua secret flagship sound sig.
Bass is slightly less but tight, good shaped.

Aur Audio Alita(My favorite#2)
Balanced, good performance across FR, great soundstage, Bass is on-par with dd bass, very good treble/mid, really impressive)(I liked its fabric-sleeved stock cable too, sig like PW Attila (?) it added depth and lifelike staging)

Aur Audio Alita $ 1,057.25 USD
DRIVER CONFIGURATION

Bass (4): Knowles Dual Woofer
Midrange (4): Sonion Midrange Driver
Treble (4): Knowles Dual Tweeter
HOUSING MATERIAL
Shell: Acrylic Resin

Penon impact (good stock cable. Very good high mid and treble(but I prefered Turi Ti’s high performance better). Bass is definitely good but I could tell it was BA bass, so not the best) were among my favorites!

I did not know Penon inpact was Penon’s newly released flagship that has similar FR compared to Trailli. S2kphile casually handed it to me, to try 4 EST implementation. It needs some aging/burning to extract the full potential per him. As he is Penon VIP, he could get some discount.

Alita was S2kphile’s favorite.
@Precogvision (Theo) and his friends stopped by and Theo started listening to iems:):)😱.

He felt lower offering(Aur Aure)was the best among Aur iems.. Check out at https://www.auraudio.store/
(No discount available per S2kphile. No haggle price.:) )

I felt Aur Aure has direct, close vocal range but detail was lacking. It was better than Gaea though. Somehow, I was disappointed at Gaea(stock 4.4 cable, my Azla crystal or Spiral dot ++ tip, Sp2000ss, Pw1960s adapter). Sound extension was not as good as above iems. Vocal was distant. Sound was “muffled”?. DD bass was apparent but not cohesive and sticking out too much. Elysian treble was good but not excellent. Felt it sounded like $1000 iem but not more. I may try again with Azla W1 tip and Liquid venom cable when the tour unit comes.
Aur audio is located in Singapore. Never heard of this company before. Their iem has high impedance so lots of potential for amping / high power sources!

I asked precogvision Mentor vs Ragnar.. He said he does not recommend Ragnar for this big low treble peak. Mentor will be good but he is unsure if it is worth the asking price. Probably good for used price.
He lent me

This iem-7th acoustics Supernova. It has quite good vocals, in-your-ear type, direct, but treble/detail reproduction was not so good(smudged). I agree it punches above its price $700 and felt it was worth $1400.

Also asked him why there are no Fir Frontier reviews. He tried them all and did not really like it~

I moved on to Xmems booth where you could hear a new tech, silicon weifer based driver iem. 2 of those drivers in each iem. (They make these special drivers but not iem itself). Interestingly, it had good bass, accurate, like DD. It operates with special version(voltage drive I think) ifi signature dac/amp. I could only hear one song but good mid and treble performance per Precogvision~. Slightly dry, detailed, dense, like EST driver implemented tribrid, I felt. But it was very accurate with good bass as well. Lots of potential, for sure.
Mike at Xmems will present in following Canjams so check it out when you have a chance!

I tried Wagnus alexsandra sheep spiral 🐑🐏- thinner pink/green cable (S2kphile had one with him yesterday) and felt bass was too weak compared to Turii Ti stock silvery cable. Unsure if 8w thicker one will be much better.. it may be similar to Erua Miro or Erua Type 7 cable in sound signature(emphasis in high mid to treble) I think~
Wow, a nice mini CanJam. Amongst Mentor, xe6, and Turi TI, which is your favorite?

First thing is always take a clean bath, wash behind your ears, and do not use a qtip but a small picking tool for wax removal.

Seriously though, secret is Costco fragrance free baby wipes. If they can clean a baby's bottom and be sensitive for skin, it can clean IEMs too. Also, throwing it in a UV drying box made for hearing aids helps remove moisture/humidity build up. I do once a month depending on IEM usage.

@Ace Bee @gadgetgod @aakashk @Visveswaran Umashankar @rishabhgkp @Sajid Amit @Animagus Shrugged off COVID, am moving again per today, and wonder if an Indian audio meet-up is still in the books. I'll most likely be approaching Delhi sometime around the Headphone Connect show on Feb 25th. Perhaps aim to meet there or somewhere else during the days after? Of course anyone else is invited!

Still have to work on a good story to seduce @HiFiHawaii808 to come over and take a box with beautiful Watercooler tags with him. Could he be the incarnation of an Indian sultan or something?

Sultan? Did I type that??

I thought Sultan was an Arab king. If Jim went to India he’d be the Maharaja…Nobles next IEM maybe.

I have not heard Mentor but believe AüR audio Alita could act as a Baby Mentor?

Thanks to @Rockwell75 , demoed Fir frontier series at home!
Xe6- really liked its detailed, dense sound with EST /BA implementations and Kinetic Bass. But yes, tonality is L shaped, not easy to extract best high-mid and treble. Needs good driving power. Still, vocal was too close(Azla xelastec tip). Also slight booming, cloudy sound(esp with foam tip) may not be desirable for TOTL detail retrival(?). In the end, I liked Fir Kr5 with stock foam tip and $600 Erua Miro cable better- lifelike soundstage, good high-mid and treble, desirable W or U tonality, foam tip complements density in the mid, kinetic bass, half the price(when you factor in 1k cables for Xe6), and additional fluidity in vocal. But it maybe bc I am in Honeymoon period with my newly acquired Sp2000ss and too happy finding good matching iem(Kr5)~

Turi Ti- The best 1DD I felt. Specialist for female vocal which is >60% of my library. So, this is the opposite of unresolving open iem or open headphone sound I felt. Tight, well shaped bass(slightly less amount but thats ok), ethereal high mid and treble that extends without limit. High-mid and treble is yet, Soft-to-Ears. I did not notice any sibilance but if you do, maybe Acoustune 1790ti may suit better for you. A massive upgrade compared to Moondrop Variation. (🥺Sorry to reveal this if you did not know, but Moondrop and Softears are the same company, same CEO. Hyundai-Genesis. Toyota-Lexus. Volkswagen-Audi🫢-Porche🫥) Stock cable is very good with interchangeable term plug. Turi Ti is probably my next purchase FX iem project candidate.

97A95A75-ED32-4F3B-8911-E555D93E136A.jpeg

Fir Xe6 / Sp2000ss+pw 1960s 4.4 adapter, Aroma A100tb(IC: Erua Tawa 8w ofc pentaconn 4.4 to 4.4mm) ( Erua Tawa 4w 4.4mm ofc pentaconn iem cable)(Azla xelastec tip)

So I bought Kr5 from Musicteck / Andrew :)

Still, I feel Ether C flow( more fun sound than Ether 2) + Chord Qutest/Violectric V200 sounds better, balanced/detailed, tight bass with ethereal high performance🫢. Source is mere ipad /tidal with camera kit and Audioquest forest usb cable.

64’s with the ATOM modules work great, you’re getting pressure relief and 10-20db isolation at the same time.

I’ve used my U6t with the M20 module for 15 hour flights, slept great with zero fatigue at the end.

The M20 is good, but the Etymotic provides like 40db. It's a huge difference and you do hear it. The deep insert isn't for everyone though. You also can't completely lean on them which isn't great for certain sleeping positions lol.
