I like it quite a bit but I’m also really only evaluating it from a synergy perspective with FW, I tend to move my sources around depending on whatever IEM I am listening to the most.

The Grand Maestro on the other hand.. the N30 was incredible for that. The AM2 doesn’t do that IEM justice unfortunately but it still “sounds good” from the Sony, but I’ve heard it sound much better as well. It starts to sound a tad compressed and closed in from weaker sources :/ I still enjoy it regardless so that’s really all I’m concerned about at this point as my ears are definitely more occupied w FW at the moment.

N30 is definitely the most complete DAP I’ve ever used, but for easy to drive IEMs I feel a lot of the value in owning such a top class device gets lost a little.
Sony DAPs have been notorious for their lack of capability in driving power hungry iems. Easy to drive iems are no problem, but the ones like Fatfreq GM or MSE are where it gets challenged a lot. Fortunately, AM2 at high gain and max volume can make the Fatfreq MSE sound good, but the DAP is maxed out & pushed to its limits, LOL.

I know you sold your RN6 for the Fei Wan blindly and I feel some of my impressions/posts may have had some influence to this. I’m really sorry if what I shared may have mislead you into making the wrong choice. While it’s obviously not my fault or responsibility, I do feel a small sense of guilt if it’s not up to your expectations even though we all hear differently.

With that said, over the years I have accumulated a playlist of “torture tracks” for things like harshness, sibilance, poor treble quality, etc., and I have had no issues with Fei Wan on these tracks.

I have another friend at the moment who’s demo’ing Fei Wan and is having the same issues you are. We shared some tracks and while I could understand what he is hearing I also took these same tracks and played them on other IEMs that don’t have majorly dipped treble (like Jewel) or heavily colored mid ranges and the same tracks were also problematic on these IEMs. To my ears and brain this just tells me that Fei Wan is quite revealing, detailed, and less forgiving of certain tracks, which understandably will not be for everyone.

I hope you find a way to make them more enjoyable 🙏🏽
Oh don't be. It's just me being me and I blame nobody 🤣
Blind buy is my ninja way 🥷
And don't worry I can enjoy the Fei Wan just alright. I use it when I want to listen to some EDM and something with the emphasis on bass and treble (the treble only become problematic because of the bordeline sibilance, but if there's no vocals involved then I'm good. I like some zingy treble too 🤭).
I consider it a more specialist IEM than an all rounder one. When paired with MAS and new Symbio W the treble are tamed slightly and I'm sure with some burn in it will be fine 😉

The one advantage to Sony's S-Master system, though, is that there's zero distortion even at 120/120 HG. So you can push the DAP to its limits and it won't flinch, unlike many Class A/AB amps.

Any comments on the isine 20’s.. Picked up these during Audeze’s B-stock sale…
Needs heavy EQ to approach the harman curve, but once there, they are really good.
Unfortunately they’ve been discontinued, and I was happily surprised when they showed up on the sale. I listened to GnR CD “Appetite for Destruction”, and was enjoying the guitar work, I’ve never heard it this clear before. 👍

The Eletech Raphael is a very good pairing with 64Audio A18t. The bass including the sub-bass comes out to play very nicely without overpowering the mids. Refined & restrained overall. Raph sounds slightly more wider with 18t than it does with MSE. While the treble brings the needed resolution without getting too bright. 18t can extend more in the highs, but Raph doesn't extend as much. The18t is one excellently tuned iem and produces excellent sub-bass. Awesome for an all BA iem. It can do a balanced, clean presentation when needed. And can be altered to sound differently with the cable and/or source. In that way 18t is like a chameleon.

I'm planning to try the A18t with Effect Audio Leonidas (original) & N30LE. The original Leonidas is a warmish sounding cable with good sub-bass and tames the treble while retaining the resolution & details. It's going to be an interesting weekend trying this combination.

The power issue has been one factor that has historically kept me at bay from going in on a 1Z. I've come to a realization recently that I should instead avoid power hungry IEMs as for a variety of reasons they're just not practical for me.

I’ve had them for a while before I got the i4 as a replacement for the ISine 20 on a Black Friday sale. Honestly I’ve never used them outside of the cipher cable, but it’s a great IEM in its own right. It’s pretty odd that it didn’t go on sale this year.
