Hi watercooler folks, I wanted to ask that when you guys buy your dap, what do you look for?
1) Do you guys look for a dap that sounds slightly colours (pleasing sound) or do you seek for objectively measured, design DAP?
2)How important is UI?
3)What is the longest time you held onto a dap?
4)How often do you upgrade your source?(Do you upgrade because of your recent IEM purchases not pairing well withbl your current dap?)

Thanks
Hi pal 😉

1) objectively measured very well... with slightly colours. 💡We listen to music, not frequencies. 😊

2) Very important. Because a bad UI will makes a bad user experience. Worse ? Bugs, lags, sluggish UI...😴

3) 5 years and it's not finished yet. My beloved M1s ; now my second dap. My first choice now... Is the... M1...p (Bluetooth version = point one and two completed) 🤤 See my signature 😅

4) I take a lot of time and care in choosing my daps. Hence the first 2 points, and especially the first. Non-negotiable : zero noise, zero hiss, zero... whatever headphones or earphones I use, even the more efficient.

My 2 CTS and my pleasure 🙂

1. Filters to adjust sound as needed based on nuances of IEM
2. Output variety to handle 2.5mm/3.5mm/4.4mm
3. Soundstage: black and expansive so you feel in the music vs hearing music from your ears
4. Transparency and detail retrieval
5. UI less important as I mostly stream Tidal and Amazon Music
6. Intuitive controls, simple controls, exceptional volume knob
7. Any DAP without an ESS chip, I have tot find one I liked
8. Build quality

If I find a DAP a I like I will keep for life AK 2pk/3pk, Sony nw-zmw1. Generally I will keep the Dap until next generation. I enjoy the AK so much I won’t stray into other brands

I have 3 set ups; 1) references listening with TOTL IEMS…AK3PK 2) Basshead monster …AK2PK with AK PA10 AMP 3) Travel …Sony ZX707 sometimes with AK PA10 amp

Singularity SE was sold out in 3 min. Wow. I was to late.
Well, will wait for the next batch. Or maybe, I just saved myself $1300

I never even saw it show as available to purchase and have been checking the page for the last 20 minutes.

Oh well if so, I guess I also just saved $1300

sold out in the minute...even had it in the cart, but, slow fingers ? what will be, will be....
Probably for the best, let the hype die down and then save some money. Anyways, back to real life.

Do you mean Singularity's first production batch is less than 100 units?

Yes, I think some units were sold before today.

My suspicion is it was 100 units but that included pre-ordered units that we have seen reported here already.

I buy DAP opportunistically (say, when someone decided to part way with theirs at a good price).

After reviewing and trying a few, I would go with something only slightly coloured. Pushing too far in either side of colouring can backfire with certain pairing. Since I have only 1 DAP as a time, it’s a no no for me.

Importance of UI: I can stand ugly UI, but it has to be functional. For example, a DAP without gapless playback and no alternative player app is no no

Longest time: maybe a year, I think?

How often do you upgrade your source? Faster than I need but slower than I want :dt880smile:

It’s not (just) a hobby. It’s shopping therapy.
