Absolutely! Maybe at some early point in IEM history, Japanese market might have been majority anime fans that might have led to this stereotype. There has always been hardcore Jazz and classical audiophiles there too. I'm certain the iem/hp audience is much broader than it used to be. Given the highly trained listening skills of cooler crowd, this group is way past those broad categorization. I think most appreciates different aspects and improvements which is cool.

Could it be that there is much more commercial pressure in Asia because there's many more big brands around, which may lead to a rather excessive tuning to quickly outshine other competitors during a short comparison? We all know that will be counter productive in the long term but then the commercial damage is done. The US and Europe having smaller markets with possibly a larger percentage of "critical listeners" would mean they have to focus on a more modest tuning (which in these lands is often seen as higher quality) to survive in their own regions. Adding the 2 together then it suddenly would make sense; at least from a commercial point of view.

We should buy all of them for use around the watercooler (or the top 20 or so). Like everyone sponsoring and then getting their share of demo time. Rinse and repeat for new top models that are added during the year. I've been playing with the idea of setting up a mini business with a similar thought for a while now. It would enable everyone to get access to new models where only transport costs plus a minimal fee would be paid by the customer. A bit like AudioTiers but on steroids and for all brands that want to participate.

When I saw the word "spatial" I suddenly thought about perhaps our ear canals being differently shaped and amplifying different frequencies as well. It's not a secret that skulls of, say, Americans/Europeans vs Indians vs Mongoloid people are differently shaped, so why wouldn't there be consequences for the size and shape of the ear canal too? Would be strange if there weren't any. Just a thought and it may not matter at all.
