Spending an early Sunday morning with the SR-X Mk2 and SR-X Mk3. Off the 007t.

To me, the Mk2 is more intimate but is denser and warmer, whilst the Mk3 has a bigger soundstage and is more transparent. But both enjoyable in their own way.

decided to give the SR-X a run out as well this fine Sunday morning. For something that was released in 1970, it still sounds so sweet. :)

It looks like it is 16V/uS, but probably in stereo mode so should be double in bridged mode.

All I did was solder a 120pF 2kV cap across L+ and L- at the output of one the transformers with no resistors and no headphones connected. I used a makeshift cable I made with another 120pF 2kV cap at the end to test the BHSE by putting the ends of the cable into the Stax connector across L+ and L-. No idea if the longer cable (5 feet or so) impacted the BHSE's slew rate measurement.
How you take measurements will also significantly affect readings, here is a new prototype Lundahl LL1630 setup, floating single probe measurement vs grounded. This is at 1KVpp output vs the transformer input. Keeping in mind this is one of my cheap sacrificial amplifiers for testing lol, not one of my good ones... Pretty easy to put your thumb on the scales. I tend to only do single probe measurements these days at these voltages and measure voltage using a DMM.

I blame @Kiats for this...he's tickled my Stax bug again and made me pull out my 007Mk1s.

I was not aware that 007mki came in that colour. Aren't all the mkis brown, not black?

It's a grayscale image, could be either one...
They've made a few late SR-007 Mk1 sets in black/brown colour, mainly for the European market, they've called it the SR-007 BL

Does anyone know what kind of plastic is used for the arc on a L300? Mine broke and before I buy a replacement I would like to plastic weld it together.

Does anyone happen to know how the performance/power of the DIY SR-X+ circuit compares to a stock 717?

Really glad to see this post, I thought the same with the Mk2, it surprisingly brings a different flavor to the table instead of being strictly just a less refined Mk3. Have not heart the Mk1.

- headphones are in unknown condition, taking into account the 1 micron membrane and the manufacturing date of 1987 - this is not the most reliable thing in the world, i don’t want to pay good money for something that will have channel imbalance or something like that

Early start to May Day holidays. Decided to bring out the Stax SR 4070 for a listen off the KGST. Always enjoyable especially off tube energizers. :)

Do you have any thoughts on how the 4070 sounds compared to the 009, 007, or X9k?

Other than the SR-Omega and 007mk1, the 4070 is the only major Stax release I have not listened to extensively at this point.

The 4070 was designed by Stax for monitoring work in studios. Hence it is very balanced and neutral. However, it does have more of bass because it is a closed back.

It is not open or have as big a soundstage as the X9K. The 009 is obviously very transparent vs even the 4070. But I think the 4070 is defintiely more balanced without any fatiguing trebles.

Compared to the 007, of course the 007 is warmer by a fair bit.

Thanks I appreciate the reply. That's quite interesting as the overly diffuse soundstage of the X9k, the fatigue of the 009, and the warmth of the 007 are actually my biggest issues with each...lol. I think I would still take the 009 transparency overall but I will continue to seek out a 4070 for audition :)
