You want pure DD sound, not hybrid sound?
Because i'm currently listening to the ISN H60 and TSMR X and lemme tell ya, it's endgame material for me (Me - a colledge student who's mindful about his money and consider 400$ his upper limit of spending fee).
I consider the H60 and TSMR X to have top tier bass texture for me.
It has better texture than some candidate like the ISN Neo 5, Dunu Davinci, ZiiGaat Doscinco, Penon Serial and Penon Quattro to me.
Only the Simgot EA1000 comes close to those - regarding the bass texture btw. The EA1000 use a really high quality driver membrane, it feels really fast and technical. Just a bit quicker and it's almost planar level lol.
As for the H60 and TSMR X, these 2 bass texture is a wee bit slower than the EA1000's, but way more organic, compacted, tight. Imagine musical vs technical. Since i value the "lingering" sense that good DD gives me (which Planar and BA bass cannot), the bass on the H60 and X is better in that aspects.
I would second your thoughts on the H60 coming off with many of the same traits that people used to buy single full-range DDs for. The complete ISN H60 timbre that DDs offer, the filled-in aspect of the stage...........the cohesiveness! These features used to confine the buyer to DDs, but not any longer, you can now have the best of both worlds.

I don't have a problem with the bass of hybrid IEMs because is related to DD, but with the midrange, which usually is impacted of that BA timbre, more or less.
Also tonality, texture and coherency are better with DD.
When I listen to a hybrid, the sound is very clear and detailed but not so musical, textured and with aluring vocals, like from a good DD.

OT but since you mentioned JVC FX1100, why not pick up one of its successors like FW1500/1800 or FW01? Or, if money is no object, FW10000? I’m pretty picky about timbre, coherency and note weight so I get what you mean, so even though I’ve found that hybrids including Penon’s have closed the gap quite a bit recently, there’s still room for single DDs in my collection.

What is your favorite all-around Penon under $1,000?

Thus far, Quattro - particularly when an amp is added to the chain since those 4 DDs really scale with power. It is fairly dark, but tonality is impeccable.

I mostly say it is the 10th Anniversary IEM, but then when I use the Volt I may respond with a totally different answer in the end. The Volt is uniquely special and will never be totally replaced as far as I’m concerned. In many ways the two IEMs compliment each other and feature different abilities, to where nothing can touch the Volts midrange......ever. Yet this H60 ability to do so much? The H60 transcends any price point....to make it almost the new hero. Sorry I can’t answer your question more directly. :)

I was thinking of buying the SR7 on a whim, but I put the attempt on hold because new and interesting recipes from Penon-ISN-SR were coming. Now everything points to the 'King' being this new H60. I have a wallet, but I'm not stupid and I don't spend money for the sake of spending. For a large number of consumers, my NEO 5 would be the top; well equalized it is a real luxury, with a good cable and a good DAP, the next thing I have left is to die in peace.

I would choose Serial of the ones I have heard. I am writing a short impression on a Quattro tour unit, and compared against my Serial, and think I prefer it ever so slightly still.

I also prefer the Serial to the Quattro.

@jotaerre,
I would say the Neo 5 is such an amazing find and can be lived with for long periods of time, it has that magic that is special!

Beers! I mean cheers!

The Serial is more of an easy walk in the park never demanding much to get great sound. I found the Serial also very responsive to added cables like the Penon Space to open the stage up! Truly the Serial is one-of-kind in the IEM world. Yet the Quattro (for me anyway) delivers on another level. More finicky yet once that cable is found it seems to deliver, though remember too I have an affinity for Rock, so maybe that could be part of it. But the Quattro and Penon Leo Plus cable is heaven to my ears. To where sure the Quattro end slightly controversial and often has polarized opinions of it, yet with a little work and burn-in I found a place to call home. That’s me anyways.

Did you get the Fan 3 or is it just @Dsnuts who had the chance to listen to them?

Ha, nope no Fan 3, sorry to say. :) The Hype is real with that one, maybe! Penon is on a roll now, I mean what could possibly be even better than the H60? Lol
