I should have picked this up when you mentioned it to me. They aren't screw on, theres a little guide that ensures it fits a particular orientation. Hopefully that's still there if you've been screwing lol...
I haven’t been switching plugs, attached the 3.5mm and kept that on. I’m over 4.4bal for iems.

It’s a shame it’s not screw secured, really should be. I’ll order in fixed 3.5 when I eventually order my own unit (ear hooks too). I know there’s no option for that on the website, but penon are usually very accommodating with requests.

I bought my Voltage with the 4.4mm Obsidian. I didn't see the other option was a modular cable.

Anyway, I prefer a fixed connection. And Penon sent me another Obsidian 4.4mm cable two weeks later, so now I have 2 cables 😊

Is this about the connection between the cable and the IEM, or about the modular aspect? What are some example IEMs (?) that have screw secured connections?

Penon rocks. Really a vendor you can trust. And they're more than willing to make custom cables and adapters if they are able. Never had a bad experience with them. I wish them continued success.

Here it is on DITA Project M (in fact all DITA IEMs have it)

On the budget end, NiceHCK has a good implementation of screw-secured plugs on the Himalaya (the cable is called BlueLuna and they also sell it separately these days). The knurled collar makes it easy to screw it on or off as well as grip the plug.

Got it, so it is about the plugs screwing onto the cable. But the cable connection onto the IEM itself is still just a standard connection (like 2 pin or MMCX or whatever), held by friction?

Yes, that’s right. 2-pin.

Posted very brief impressions of the Penon Quattro on the Discovery thread
https://www.head-fi.org/threads/the-discovery-thread.586909/page-7401#post-18219653

To summarise - a coherently, well tuned IEM that scales with a cable upgrade and source. I listened initially out of the MacBook Pro 14" 3.5mm headphone out. But really enjoyed it paired to Eletech Azrael (and even better) with Eletech Raphael both of which synergised with the Quattro tuning better than the original blue cable.

Touring Penon Voltage at the moment and have been quite impressed once I got the cable and source right. Again, the stock cable could be improved upon. I've continued my time with the Eletech Raphael with Switch 1 'on' and Switch 2 'off' and very much am enjoying my time with it. Will be sad to ship it on in a few weeks. Thinking about a custom IEM for Voltage now.

Also a quick acknowledgement to Penon and AG for making the tour possible.

I haven't had the opportunity to tour Penon's cables yet. The Eletech cables are currently part of the Australian Eletech head-fi tour.

Where can I find a Fan 3? My Fan cable broke off the connector and I could never remove it and now they are sold out. I would buy a Fan 3 to check out the BC thing because I was looking to replace the FAN.

Does Penon sell individual FAN replacements?

I am also considering the Quattro. Is it similar to the Meze Noir, because that would be too dark for my taste and then the Serial or Fan 3 would likely be a better choice.
