Ran into a surprising issue with my Globes--they're so chunky that wearing a beanie with them is really uncomfortable (and looks pretty goofy to boot). Sucks that I have so many comfort issues with bulky IEMs, considering how rare actually small ones are. I guess I'm going back to the Honeydews for the winter.
The Magaosi DQ4 has a 2DD (6+8mm)+2BA setup (four-way crossover design). It came out a couple of years ago. I think it does bass very well.
I'm itching to see a graph (not a Penon official graph) of the Fan 2 to see if the mid bass emphasis is a problem for me.
Okay I think I am sold… I like a little bass, but nothing where it’s bleeding into mids, into female vocals (my girlfriend: “you like tortured/depressed women who’s singing about their pains”).
I prefer more natural sounding IEM’s than not.
I’ve tried to read through this thread… but it’s a lot. There’s nice cables and IEM’s… any recommendations? Consider price over performance… I don’t have an unlimited budget. The best IEM’s I have now are the Shure 846’s, rest are sub $200.

I saw your post this morning and that got me thinking of testing out the Obsidian a bit more. I have been sick all week. Not with Covid thank god but of all things a freaking COLD! I haven't had any type of cold for the last 6-7 years. SO, my sinuses have been stuffy all week, so this morning was the first time I was able to actually listen to music.
Cant get this combo out of my ears at the moment. Vortex might be the best release of the year for me of all the IEMs I have reviewed this year. Lol.
But! We are not done with the year.. Keep tabs on the thread. My next post will be for you guys especially. Wait n see.
Penon nailed the treble department on the Vortex I believe.
Get well soon DS.
Fan 2 incoming, let's see if the Vortex trebles are on a roll on this set as well...
I'm certainly curious about it, but it seems to be going for a much more neutral or even brighter sound, whereas Thick And Warm is kind of my thing, so I'm not sure. 200 bucks is right on the upper end of the "**** it, I'll give it a try" range for me, though, so I might check it out at some point.
So it does look like it will come with the excellent OS133 cable in any termination when ordering. It was one of the cables I got to try out with the Fan2 and it is definitely a good match up with the Fan2.
A bit of an update on my condition. It was only a matter of time but I did get Covid since last weekend. It is a reminder that even though a majority of folks might make it seem Covid is completely gone from our society. My entire family caught it. The good news on the most recent variety of Covid is that it is much weaker than the very first variant that came out. And we finally have antiviral meds that help with the most severe cases. My father could have died if he wasn't given medication to help with his Covid 2 weeks ago. Everyone in the family is doing well. My case was mild but I have a persistent cough.
I suppose everyone at one point or another will catch it. It is the new cold. In any case. It hasn't messed with any of my senses if anything I have been enjoying music while staying at home. Been listening to the new ISN H30 and the Fan2.
So I just checked on Penon, and the Fan 2 is indeed there now. That case - damn! How awesome, and a nice upgrade over previous ones... I want that case, with its soft fabric lined indents for each shell separately.
