Oh yea me too. I use cheapo JVCs myself. The JVC FXC51  are a marvel at $25 and my newest HAFX1X @ 20 is my current BASS champs.  As for the comparo. I only have the AD700 which are good phones but lack bass and perhaps some balance..My Panasonic RP-HT770/ HTF890 actually beat the AD700 in what it does. These have a more balance as the bass can be heard and even felt on certain tunes. The clarity is very similar but has better balance  than the AD700 with a bit more bass impact.. The HT770/HTF890s also have angled drivers but sound more like a standard driver than angled. I don't think you will actually get an upgrade by getting one of these over your AD900s As from what I understand about the AD900s are that they fix all the issues of the Ad700s If you wanted to get a similar sounding open phone for a gift to a loved one..I can definitely recommend one of the Panasonics.. Now these HTF600s however are completely different sounding all together.

Oh and you know what. I will show you something that will surprise you since you mentioned cheapo earphones. $7.11 at monoprice 8320  sound like $150 headphones. @ monoprice.com   I might have to do a write up on these as well  but for now back on topic. lol..

LOL... to be honest, my IEMs aren't exactly cheapo! but they are still Panasonics and Sonys

Thing is 90% of people on HeadFi will generally agree that any Denons, Senns or Westones will be better than any Panasonics but that just wasn't the case for me after trying them out. I guess people find it hard to believe that a specialist audio company doesn't actually make better products. Monoprice looks like an interesting website hmmm... do they have a similar store across the pond in UK?

Thanks for the comparison btw. Like Libertad said, you need to do a detailed proper review on the Panasonics so they get more exposure. I'm sure many HeadFiers will be grateful for it

Ya I know the review is more write up than a proper one but I am a noob at write ups. I have done a few with mixed results and these panasonics stood out to me as one of the best bang per dollar headphones I have ever heard so I made a semi review on the thread just to bring some awareness. Once a few guys have these I might do a proper one. We will see.

It is hard to suggest a $30 headphone more so than a $300 one as most will just ignore this post and think.. These Panasonics are not gonna be worth my time.. I only post phones I deem worthy to mention. These are definitely worth mentioning.. These threads are all about expensive high end phones and equipment and once in a while a product comes out that is just as good for a fragment of the cost.. To me this phone is what that is.. One thing about headphones I have learned is. .You dont necessarily have to spend an arm and a leg to get a great sound..If these aren't an example of this I don't know what is. .

Ya I think monoprice is based in California you might want to chat with them and see if they send stuff over seas. They have more than just that earphone but also the Hi fi DJ cans which are the same as my kicker HP541s. Good stuff on the cheap..

Actually I meant do a review on the HTF890s (or have you already?) This review on the HTF600 is perfectly fine. Nice write up and clear impressions

Who knows I might just get the HTF600 just to try it out. Bad thing about living in UK is that audio stuff here are relatively expensive. The HTF600 costs 42 GBP here which after conversion is 68 USD! Still a bargain I guess but not quite as tempting as 30 USD I must say haha.

Oh yea for sure I will consider it. That would be full retail price for these panasonics. You know what? I can honestly say if I didn't know what the price was on the HTF600 I would have payed $100.. I Payed Around $84 for my Sony XZ700 and these step on those easily..The Sonys to me are boring compared to these.  They aren't bad phones per se but once you hear the sounds from these phones and then get those. That would not be an upgrade at all is my point..If you got the HTF890 those are very similar to the AD700 and somewhat similar to your AD900s.. These are definitely studio monitors and as so they have full bass and has a completely different sound vs open cans... If you ask me if it is worth it try these Panasonics HTF600s at even your price. I will say absolutely yes.

Thanks for the review - I ordered mine tonight. I've got a couple of Panasonic Plasmas that I love, so it wouldn't surprise me at all that they produce a decent headphone.

Have you used them with an amp?

Ya these Panasonic headphone has enlightened me on what is possible for a budget price... Truth be told my all time favorite headphone back in the day  was my Panasonic shockwave headphone with Xtra bass that was on my shockwave cassette player back in later 80s.. Aha the memories.. The first time I heard the thunderous bass I was in love with the sounds of my cassette player..

I have had other headphones that give much for little but not quite like these... I have no doubt you will enjoy your new headphones.. I do strongly recommend at least a 24 hours of burn in minimum on the headphones before you take a listen.. I like listening to phones with fresh drivers just to hear what they are like out of box but these change and are changing a bit more as I use them.. The sound opens up big time once the drivers loosen up..

As per amp..I do use the Fiio e5 and the e11 but mostly use  my I7 quad gaming machine I use at my shop with a Titanium HD which has a headphone amp built in...So far I have been able to drive every headphone I have easily on this soundcard.  I do have a full Denon deck set up at my house I use for home but at work I use my PC and sound cards they do the job very admirably.. I have several Mp3 players I use as well as some laptops I have that are sound/ burn stations for my headphones I use at my work.  I try n test the phones I get with a variety of sources to get a better idea of the sound the phones make and in this case the Panasonic HTF 600s have proven to me to bring attention to them here at headfi.. No one else will so why not was my thinking..Let us know how you like your headphones once you get them...

So compared to the Kicker/Monoprice HP these seem to be more of a flat FR? Seems like this might be more of a matchup of what people are looking for at Head-Fi compared to the Kicker/Monoprice HP. Do you have a preference one over the other?

I would have probably got these instead of the Monoprices if I would have read this review before I ordered.

Well I love my kickers for what they are and it isn't like you just spent $200 on them.. I would actually say get both.. The Panasonics clearly win over the kickers in sounds I will be the first to admit that.. The kickers have bigger mid bass impact than the Panasonics. Still a great budget can.  The Panasonics win over in just sheer dynamics and quality in the sounds..  $50 to have 2 different sounding cans?  I spend more on drinking beer with my friends.

If I knew about these before the kickers I would have shown this to the community first. But the kicker still remain one of my all time fave fun listening phones.. If you just got them and you are wondering if you should have gotten these instead..Return your monoprice and get these.. If you need more than one can get both. The monoprice are way more portable than these Panasonics..

Heya,

Ok, so I have a pair of RP-HTF600-S's on my head right now, and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt, this $30 headphone is constructed like a $150+ headphone, and sounds like one too. I'm actually completely puzzled and pleasantly surprised. It's a smooth warm headphone, definitely a "V" shape, but so are all those headphones it would compete with (M50, HFI580, etc). The bass actually comes close to the XB500 in terms of it's ability to just slam you. I just ran some Sierra Hull and then some Dub to test range. By the way, it has an impressive sound stage. These angled 50mm drivers with some vents along the top actually make it sound like a semi-open headphone while being closed (though honestly it is technically a semi-open headphone called a closed headphone, you can clearly hear through it and from it, like a semi-open--the vents make it semi-open in my book.

These destroy the HP541 and MHP-839... and I will actually nearly choke saying it, but come quite close to the XB500.

Yes, the mids are slightly recessed, but not even nearly as pronounced as the XB500. The highs are rolled off, it's a smooth listen, so no, it's not an incredible detail monster, but instruments sound lively and musical. And yes, the bass is out of control how low it gets. This thing has a near flat response down as far as some of my lowest tones are capable of going in my hearing range.

I don't know how these things are $30, or so under-represented, but man they're actually good.

And plus, they're actually comfortable and made of nicer materials than typical inexpensive headphones.

Excuse my gushing. But seriously, these are excellent cans for $30. These belong in every "basshead" thread too. Can't afford a PRO900? Don't like the XB500's look? Get the freaking RP-HTF600.

Full review coming soon.

Very best,

Great impressions.. Though I didn't find the mids to be recessed even a tad on my pair.  If anything the mids was forward or so I thought. The surround sound must be messing with me. If anything I threw on more Bass eQ and a tad more treble end as well. It just sounds awesome sauce.. Ya I will whole heartedly say these are great in every way.. Try them out guys.. You won't be disappointed in any way.. And MalVeaux.. Wait till the driver loosens up...Prepare to be astonished again.

Heya,

The mids are recessed for sure, you can tell with female vocals. Load up some opera and you can hear the midbass hump leak into the vocals where they shouldn't be on a female opera voice. I found that right away with some Jackie Evancho tracks. It's hardly a bad thing though, considering it's a $30 headphone, and virtually all the "V" shaped $300 and under headphones do it too. Just being objective, it's definitely a "V". Though, even V is a little too linear to say, I would guess by ear that it's response looks like this:

Theya,

These are seriously good for Dance, Trance & Dub. It's early still, but I will definitely call them a serious basshead can that is excellent for electronic music on a dime. HFI580, XB500, M50, etc, can eat their hearts out. This Panasonic is sick for $30. Seriously in awe of the price. I mean, it's almost to the point where you can't take it seriously. But there it is, built quite well, feels sturdy and solid, and sounds really fun and smooth, but costs as much as a toy. I'm in awe and gushing like a kid.

Flaws/Not-it's: Doesn't fold up, the cups turn and have a minor swivel. Some recessed mids. A little congestion noted in the upper bass and lower mids.

Likes: Bassy, very bassy, XB500 bassy. Warm. Great sound stage (angled driver & vents). Smoothed highs (not harsh or sibilant). Style is good (brushed aluminum looking plates look great). Built pretty well, feel sturdy like tanks (I can shove these in my messenger bag and not care). They're inexpensive as all get out ($29 and change shipped, what???). Very musical. Energetic.

Bassheads looking for something to try on a budget, get this headphone. Seriously.

Very best,

Heya,

Ok... found some interesting things. Bassheads, get ready, get out your phones and start testing. Let's compare a few headphones to see. Because if this little $30 headphone can do this... this is just out of control. Hah.

These Panasonics are able to play the 40hz tone pretty controlled still. It starts to lose it at 30hz though it's still hitting the tone without warbling, and then it's done after that, it can't do 20hz, 10hz and 5hz, let alone 1hz. But not even some really higher end headphones can do that (as in next to none). If you want to do it with more quality, get Audacity and just make tones. It was impressive the volume level that stays up during 40hz. This is sub bass. And it booms. Yum!

Very best,
