They certainly did! I also purchased my T1 soon after they were released, and I still love them! That "silvery" edge is just so wonderful... I own #1408. What about you?
I've tried all three versions and kept gen 1 and 2. In my opinion the original is still the best.
Agree with both of you. In the past I’ve owned more expensive and reputed (according to audio reviews) headphones but still find the T1 to outclass them.

Here's a funny story: I just received my T1s- previously modded by an unknown hacker- placed them on my head backwards due to the said modification (reversing the tilt from L/R is not something I've ever heard of :triportsad:) and proceeded to spin Ravi Shankar- The Living Room Sessions Part 2 thru a <1ohm output & original pads. Thus, if anyone is mystified as to why the treble region might frighten some heads, rest assured this recording will stab the sitar overtones right between your eyes & into that pineal gland :cooking:. If we add in EDT-T1V2 or EDT-1990VB pads & DSD256 conversion/oversampling the whole shebang hits a fair bit softer. Actually, I am thinking the T1s really soak-up the DSD timbre:milk:

You have a fine taste. Ravi's daughter Anoushka does remarkable stuff too :)

Hah, yes, that was quite the discovery for me too :)
Incidentally, I use the Zen for the DSD oversampling since it performs quite agile at its max bitrate & does not get too grumpy being fed a live resampling from a file or stream. The T1 is controlled nicely out of the pentaconn with Power Match; great for the PC desk. Additionally, it's remarkable for one legendary musician to sire two performers of prestige rivaling his own. Are there any other examples of that in the era of recorded music?:v:

Thanks a lot, it's always nice to read that folks like what our ZENs do. Much appreciated and enjoy it with your T1 :)

I'm looking for the frequency response curves of the T1 (original version), T1 ver.2, T1 ver.3 - compared to the DT1990 Pro
It is best to measure with the same measuring equipment.

IIRC i saw that comparison once on an East Asian website in reference to pad swapping (or it was the 990 because pads are identical). I cannot conjure that up, but I'll see what I've saved. The original has a least one silent revision. T1s are meant to be voiced with 100R output impedance, so that's a factor, too.

Long time fan here, I am still enjoying my Meier STAGEDAC + Meier CONCERTO + beyerdynamic T1 combo many hours daily, since I bought it in December 2011. Endgame setup for me (with the Meier JAZZ as backup amp)

Greets from The Netherlands :peace:

I'm with you there, still using T1 with Euforia and RME ADI 2 FS dac and on occasion with Benchmark HPA4 with Hugo TT1 (for classical). Still loving it. Also own T1 gen 2.

Which are actually the best earpads upgrade for T1? Dekoni...?
I am on a years-long journey trying to answer that one. beyerdynamic has complex pads with at least a couple deviations for foam type, foam thickness, material, and the pads are tuned with hole perforations in the inner vinyl ring. Dekoni is comfortable in velour, which I've tried on a Hifiman, so if comfort is the issue that could be the solution since whether an official beyerdynamic pad is memory foam or basic foam, they are decently stiff. Compared to the worn original pads, which are EDT 990 VB, but made in Germany: EDT 1990 VA are not as frequency dependent to ear-to-driver fitment and enhance the imaging to HD800 accuracy. The timbre will still be more throaty, like you'd expect. Also, Dekoni pads do not have the tuning perforations and feature fixed dust covers. Also, the T1.2 pads are analogous to the EDT 1990 VB, and yes, a different sound as the T1 is very influenced by pads. I believe X series pads are snap on, so modding will have to be done.
