The Official Beyerdynamic T1 Impressions and Discussion Thread

Just dug out my original T1 after seeing how nigh on perfect they actually measure - it was my second flagship headphone after D7000, before I got HD800, and honestly, the T1 is still one of the best high end headphones I've heard. Especially if you give them a bit of a bass lift with EQ for the more "modern" genres I listen to, like industrial and metal, which is why I used to use it with an ALO Rx Mk3b with its bass boost.

Same here, just started giving the T1 gen.1 more head time recently. I fitted them with the ZMF leather perforated pads and I can't recommend them enough. It gave a nice uplift in the bass without being bloated and dialed down the treble just a touch, also a nice boost in comfort, when compared to the stock suede pads.

Coming back to them after spending time with other TOTL headphones, makes you appreciate how good the T1 really is and how people don't give it as much credit as it deserves.

Here are my T1 gen1 with the ZMF pads.

In addition, I had the cable inputs re-terminated with XLR inputs by Custom Cans UK.

Have you tried it with other pads? (Dekoni, suede from zmf)

Unfortunately no, quite happy with the ones I got from ZMF, so no plans to get for more.

DMS did do a comparison of the ZMF pads with Beyer and Sennheiser HPs, so maybe you can have a look at this video. I did that before ordering my pads.

Would be great to see measurements with the ZMF pads vs regular ones - since I don't want to mess with the response too much..

hi guys, which pads to have bit less highs and more mids presence?
Flatten EDT-990VB (black)

Put them pressed between/under thick/heavy books for a week or more.
Brand new pads may recover from pressure so it may take more than a week or several times (high quality foams!)

990VB were the stock pads for early S/N.
Later serials have EDT-T1V included, which makes 1st gen sound a step closer to 2nd gen: more bass, recessed mids, same highs.

990V, the silver stock pads for DT990 & DT880, sound 99% same to black 990VB but very slightly less bass due to different velour density.

PS. I wrote in January that my T1 1st gen sound a bit muffled. That was with T1V pads.

Of the Beyerdynamic Tesla headphones currently available, the DT1990 Pro with analytic pads is the only one that appeals to me according to the frequency response and my listening habits.
I briefly had Amiron Home (more similar to the T1.3), but they went back!
DT1990 Pro with analytic pads suits me better!
T1.3 would be nothing for me for this reason.

Bought a used T1.1 on eBay from a Japanese seller. It’s a difficult headphone to find nowadays, especially one in G to VG condition. I lucked out, these look like they’ve been hardly used. The seller also replaced the ear pads with original/ authentic, Beyers velour ones.
They were delivered today. This is the album I’m listening to with them :

And here’s my sound description : OMG !!!!!!!!:L3000:

For those of you who have had their T1 re-terminated so you can use different cables, where in the US can I get this done for a reasonable cost?

I use XLR cables for most of my headphones on either a Jotunheim 2, or a Woo WA22.

Do any of you hear a significant difference with XLR?

I'd like to get it done on my Grado RS1 also.

ZMF perforated leather pads tamed the highs abit for me, with a gentle lift on the bass.

I have the 1st gen WA22, and it does have power, but I have the volume past 12.
My other headphones seem to sound better with XLR.
Can you hear any difference between XLR and single ended?
