The massdrop version of the T1 is the Astell & Kern AK T1p that is a modification of the stock T1.2 (that is rather expensive in Germany compared to the stock version).
I am sure it is based on the T1.2 because of the exchangeable cables (in Germany the AK T1p includes two exchangeable cables and a custom made head band).
my T1 V1 modded convince me to not repurchase a HD800s and save for Emperyean... HD800s is astounding but the difference is not enough for me. The Emperyean is out of this world....
Im not sure if other bright and highly resolving headphones like the HD800 are like this but my experience with T1.1 was similar to the HD650 and its ''veil''. Only the inverse for t1.1, where there is a lack of body and excessive sharpness/sibilance ( though still not harshness/fatigue, which seems to orginate from upper mids and was more of a problem with HD6X0 senns).
while the HD650 can get away be inadequate amping/sources and still sound good due to signature, the T1 can not, and while both scale very well, the HD650 just cant deliver the same experience as the T1.1 due to its forgiving sig...
In the beginning the T1.1 served as an analysis tool for DIY work to the system more than anything else
How's the sound linkage on the T1.2, thinking of picking up the massdrop AK T1P which is based on the T1.2. Planning on using it within a cubicle in an office.

doesnt necessarily mean they all leak the same amount, like planars leak which leak buckets... that said even thought the T1.1 is more of semi open headphone I find it leaks more than HD650, I think the drivers sit further from your ear, so levels tend to be higher.

I dont believe there is such a thing as Semi-open, its either open or closed, Beyerdynamic like to throw that term to trick people. Like you said, T1.1 leaks more than most HD650 which is classified as an Open. It also doesnt retain anything that can be deem as "Closed" ie bass.
How much do they leak? depend on how loud you play your music, how quiet is the enviroment.

semi open is subset of ''open'', traditionally open HPs would ''fully open''. I dont think semi-open really tells you anything about a HP, its just describing the construction... half open
I see your point, seems like thats what they're aiming for advertising as ''semi-open'', just that comparing 2 different pairs isnt really fair, IF the hd650 was made semi-open or beyer were made fully open, im sure the leakage would change respectively

A better comparison would be to compare T1 (half open) to T5P (closed) and DT1990 (open). It goes without saying that the DT1990, being open would leak the most and T5P the least. T1 would sit somewhere in between those two.
Also, I believe that half open vs open is more then just a marketing gimmick, for instance, my LCD-4 leaks much more then my T1.2, at about the same volume level. Then again that would't be a fair compairson as the LCD-4 is planar and the T1 a dynamic headphone. It is a fact that planars tend to leak more.

To make things more confusing their ''open'' headphones are actually still semi open: dt1990
The ''open'' DT990 is infact less open than t1, in the same semi open cups with an added layer of felt blocking the opening

I'm loving the T1...however. I want more bass, I've asked this all over the place, I almost got a Fostex TH900 but, for reasons beyond me I didn't see my self owning a TH900, call it silly, but maybe I don't like the color red on headphones...moving on. What I really like about my T1s is the treble, it's clear but just right, I like the mids, I love how it portrays vocals both male and female, the bass is all right, controlled, but timid I might add. I want to keep; as much as possible, the T1 clarity. I know it's their signature, so it won't be an exactly equal trade, however I don't want to sacrifice details for the sake of more bass. I've been seriously considering the Aeon Flow Closed, Focal Clear and the LCD-3.
I have no intention of retiring my T1, but I could sure use more darkness on top of the clarity. Anyone here that could point me in the right direction? I'm a couple of bad decisions away from pulling the trigger on a brand new Aeon Flow Closed, but if there are people that can spare my wallet; for a while a longer, I'm all ears.
