Do you mean uni demo of A18s vs custom A18s, or did you try only uni demo of A18s? U18s sounds identical to uni demo of A18s. For me personally, custom A18s didn't workout due to my earcanal shape since ciem nozzles end up being way too short. Thus, universal 18s is a blessing, the same way how it was with N8 -> Nio

I mean uni demo. I owned a uni demo for a few months last year. But I suspect my unit was faulty.

Personally the U18s design is not my preference, based solely on the photos. But I have not heard the sound yet.
