BA is BA. I don’t need to hear it to know that it will only tick certain boxes for me. No BA can overcome the associated short comings of the tech (for me).
To each their own

Out of interest, what specific shortcomings steer you away? Is it the bass where you feel you need a DD? Or the treble where you feel you need a 'stat?

Wooo finally an official U18s! I’ll be grabbing one of these when they’re available in Australia :)

I need a DD for the bass. Even the U12t was lacking for me in that regard. All BA ensembles have their place and I already have a very good all BA IEM (also at a reduced price thanks to VE’s recent 18% discount), but I still miss the air that a DD can move and it’s tactile impact.

Ok cool, can't argue with that. It's the same reason the Noir stays put despite the Traillii being added in my collection.

The U18s / bird comparison is amongst those I look forward to most; especially if one puts the 1960s on the U18s!

Same here :) if the demo unit I used to have is anything to go by, I suspect the U18s will be a fair bit warmer. I imagine them being quite complementary

Most intriguing. I believe that in general the universals a bit brighter than the customs (e.g., U12t vs A12t) but not sure how it will play out versus a demo unit of the custom. And also if they've made any tuning changes for the uni version. Only time will tell!

I hope that is the case, because I found the demo a little too warm overall. Looking forward to hearing it :)

While I am a little disappointed that 64’s finest design to date is the one I’m missing out on, a U18S is big news for anyone who’s after a warmer kind of reference signature and doesn’t want the custom commitment... I’ll have to send 64 an email about those modules too...

Do you mean uni demo of A18s vs custom A18s, or did you try only uni demo of A18s? U18s sounds identical to uni demo of A18s. For me personally, custom A18s didn't workout due to my earcanal shape since ciem nozzles end up being way too short. Thus, universal 18s is a blessing, the same way how it was with N8 -> Nio :)
