So to update my Mac connectivity issues a few pages back, and incl. a Mavericks update, using BitPerfect 1.0.8 unless noted otherwise:

- Mid/late 2013 Macbook Air (the one with extra-long battery life & USB 3):
    - OS X 10.8.5: USB (only integrated option)
No go - AK100 is recognized, everything indicates the audio signal is passing, but no actual sound is heard
           (No integer option)
    - OS X 10.9: USB (only integrated option)
No go - AK100 is recognized, everything indicates the audio signal is passing, but no actual sound is heard
          (Integer on/off makes no difference)
Audio Midi Panel (manual mode switching, no control over integer mode) No go either

- Late 2009 Macbook (USB 2):
    - OS X 10.8.5: USB
No problem (no integer mode available)
    - OS X 10.8.5: Optical
No problem (no integer mode available)
    - OS X 10.9: USB
          Regular: No Problem
Integer: Severe stutter (unlistenable) Maybe BP issue?
Audio Midi Panel (manual mode switching, no control over integer mode) No Problem
    - OS X 10.9: Optical
          Regular: No Problem
          Integer: No Problem
Audio Midi Panel (manual mode switching, no control over integer mode) No Problem

However:

- Mid/late 2013 Macbook Air (the one with extra-long battery life & USB 3), connected to Audiolabs M-DAC:
    - OS X 10.9: USB (only integrated option)
          Regular: No Problem
          Integer: No Problem

A&K have confirmed that USB 3 is a no go for the DAC....hopefully can be fixed in an update but I won't hold my breath.

I just had the issue you describe this morning. I turned on the AK100 -- went to a song I wanted to hear and I got a message saying the song was not available. I went to sys info and neither card showed up. I first rescanned -- and the only thing that came up was material on internal memory. I shut the AK down - restarted -- and the cards showed up. I rescanned, and everything was fine. That's the first time it's happened to me -- I've had the play for less than a week - no problems at all. I'm guessing it's a firmware issue -- I'm using the latest version 2.20. All tags, etc are in place just fine.

Hello to all.

I got my AK100 today together with the AKR01 IEMs. But the firmware is 1.20 and I want to update to 2.20. But I am not able to get the download right from the iRiver webpage. The zip-files normally stops before reaching the end. Is there any other place where I could get a download?

For any help, many thanks in advance,
Arne Marco

I think most of us have had that problem at some point or other. Try with a different browser and/or wait for a bit. I just tried it, downloaded in a couple of minutes & unzipped OK. If it's still trouble after a while I'm sure something can be worked out.

Hi,
I too had a problem with the method you are using until I remembered reading that the software wasn't compatible with win 7 64bit.  So I installed the iriver plus 4 software (it's the one in the root menu) into the 'program file' but not the 'program file(x86)', opened it and the program recognised my player so I just went into update and it worked immediately, 2.20 installed.  This was more by good luck rather than any computer knowledge.  Anyway, hope this helps.

Be interested to hear your views of the AKR01 are. I have the Beyer DT1350's and I'm really enjoying the music coming out of them, not as portable as IEM's of course. Enjoy.

Hey Matthew, John here. I think everyone has issues with their files at some point. After I got all the tags tidied up for the AK100 I sold you and I know it took some patience to get them right but in the end it recognised everything, I had to do even more tidying up when I got the DX50.

Seriously, download Mp3Tag.exe and use it to rename all your files on your PC (if you want to do this and get it right once and for all) to be track#Title.ext. Then clean out all the junk on your tags. Make sure you have Title, Album, Artist and Album Artist, Track number, Genre and maybe Disc Number would be helpful if you have multi-disc albums sharing the same folder. I tend to keep each disc in a separate folder. If you have album art embedded, keep to max 500x500 but I use 300x300 and these appear fine on all my DAPs.

Mp3Tag.exe allows you to do a lot of this stuff in batches so its not as laborious as it sounds.

Given I know your AK100 was working perfectly when I sold it to you I am completely confident that the above time will cure your ills. Pain but DAPs don't have use Windows file systems so what works on Windows or Mac(iTunes) won't necessarily work on your DAP. They are mostly based on a version Linux which is the case with the AK. And it has it's own formatting requirements.

Clean Tags = Clean Scans and Album recognition.

Requires some discipline but worth the effort and make sure you rip future albums with the same tag structure to keep it all nice and ordered.

Hope this helps.

Thanks John I'll have to check it out. I know for sure it's not the DAP, as everything saved directly on it works fine, just seems to be the stuff on the micro-SD that I'm having issues with. I just spent hours manually finding and attaching all album art which was terrible ! Hopefully mp3tag makes it all a bit easier!

Great suggestion from John, study the Mp3Tag application closely, there are loads of macro style commands that will make your re tagging and image embedding a breeze.

I will definitely get MP3 tag sorted and use it, but I don't know, I'm not so certain that it'll fix my problem. I mean, all the files on the player directly work fine, it's just ones on the micro-sd card that are hit and miss. To me that doesn't scream a tag problem, because what's the chance I didn't get any tag problems on the player but all of a sudden have plenty on the micro-sd card?

Really? DSD? That's cool even though I don't use that format.
But the update is not in the link?

I'd say the best test for this is (warning you are going to hate what I am about to tell you): clear out your SD card and only load small file/directory pattern you can try, then see if that causes issues. You know that this will be the true root cause of your problems. Before you do, make sure you copy only clean tag files on it. This way you can easily eliminate any setups as being the cause of your problem. It will take time but at the end you will be better off knowing exactly what makes the dap tick and make makes it misbehave.

Great news! Already upgraded although I don't have any DSD format files to enjoy the new feature.

On a side note, heard the StageDiver SD2 with the AK100 along with the Fitear 111. The SD2 surprised me to be honest considering the lack of hype in this forum, they are really good for their price.
The 111 as I have imagined, is very midcentric. The bass response though is sorely lacking from the AK100, OI issues I presume and it makes me want to hear a modded AK100 version just to compare.
