The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP

I have been using the russian FW for some time now, and when I connect the ak to my mac there are some instability issues when holding my two 64gb cards. However if I fill the internal while not having the sd cards in the unit there are no problems at all. I then use my card reader to fill up the sd cards and when done I reinsert them and scan the library. A little more hassle than ideal, but far less than the original ui. Thank you Russia!

Here you go

Inside the pelican box:

This is a nice fit and the lid shuts! Note this is a tight fit and there is no room for earphones. It also may be too tight if a rubber band is used to hold the ak and qs together.

where did you get that nice box for housing both ak and amp? i need one too...

Thank you guys. I was thinking of stacking the AK to PB2/DB2 combo.

I was thinking more about doing this.  Please verify, as I own neither.  I think you would want a mini-toslink to optical cable to go from the AK100 to the optical input of the PB2:

The real challenge would be finding a short cable, that is if I'm even correct...

Just a heads-up: I've used the above Velocity cables myself, and they are OK for most of my device combos, at least up to the optical standard 24/96.

But between the AK100 & the Yulong Sabre D18 specifically, which are both capable of up to 24/192 through optical, I had a lot of very real dropouts etc. at higher frequencies, and complete failure to sync on the longer cable. Admittedly, the Yulong is particularly sensitive, having little to no jitter rejection, but still.

I was looking for alternatives, and found that, at least for me, the previously mentioned Micca cables actually have worked completely error-free between these 2 devices, up to the 2 meter version.

You could try Miniplug to Toslink fiber optic from Sys Concept. They are available from 0.05 m to 50 m

Like with most things I prefer more than one but with Pelican cases, I may have gone overboard
size]

May have over done it with the purchase.....................Now I need to buy more (C)IEMs to put in the damn boxes.

Of course purely an excuse to the better half in justifying more earphone/source/amp purchases

The funniest thing or not so funny....

I was at a camera shop and have now decided to buy a dehumidifying camera/ lenses cabinet. I can just throw all my (C)IEMs in and at least see which pair is which, without going through individual boxes

As mentioned above, Sysconcept is the way to go. Ultimate quality and they will make any length and configuration and the 1300 fiber optical cable exceeds any solid core in sound quality and works great with 24/192 as it can do the bandwidth, which solid core can not .
