Does anybody know whether 400gb sd card is compatible with ak 100ii? Thanks a lot!
After reading here on the possibility of using a 256gb card, I pushed the envelope and have just successfully installed / used a 512gb micro sd card by SanDisk, with a class 10 rating ☺
I only started with 1x 512gb card to try. Formatted it as exfat, then loaded it with 5gb first to see if the AK100 will be able to read it. When it did, to my delight ☺ I then started loading it to the max.
It took about 5 hours to fill it up with approximately 6900+ Flac files, mixed of 16/44.1k / 24/48k / 24/192k bitrates.
I wanted to attach here some images of my AK100 screen for reference, but being a new member here I can't do that yet. Maybe later on.

Just some tips:
- Turn OFF Automatic Library Scanning. Just do a scan whenever you're adding new files to your card, as it takes some time to scan 512gb, maybe 10+ minutes.
- If some of your files doesn't have proper "tags" don't expect them to show up in the "Album" View. But if you have albums by individual folders, it is easier and quicker to access them using the "Folders View", you won't miss any album there.
- If you are connecting the AK100 in your car audio system aux input, and while charging it via the car charger you hear some "noise", it is from the charger port and better use an external battery pack instead to charge the Ak100 while in use, for noise free performance.

I have not noticed any additional lag when scrolling albums or folders, it feels the same as when I had 2x 64gb cards.

Now after more than 8 yrs, I'm still loving my AK100 ❤️

Hi Everyone,

I've recently got an AK100 (Mk1) DAP. I've read a little bit here and there about it.

My first query is Firmware 2.42 is lastly released. What's the difference between 2.40 and 2.42? Is 2.42 stable?

The second one is I have Shozy Neo BG, amazing for its price. But it has a 5 BA design. So I've read about AK100 is not up to the mark. So what should I do? Is there any way to improve the existing unit?

The final one is at the current firmware update what is the maximum size of the SD Card it supports?

Thanks in advance. Peace.

From distant memory the first lot of AK100 had a high output impedance (20? 40? I forget) that skewered the designed frequency curves of the IEMs at the time (not that there were many)

If it is one of them a iFi iEmatch will help out it down to 1-2ohms output impedance

Thats all i can assist with sorry

Shozy bg is a great earphone.

Hi, thanks for your prompt response.

AK100 (Mk1) has an output impedance of 20 Ohms. Shozy Neo BG varies from 22 to 32 depending on various frequencies. It must affect on snr.

I will look on to iFi iEmatch.

Hi everyone, and sorry for posting on such an old thread. I still have my loyal AK100 and I can’t figure out how to use it as an external usb dac. I’ve tried everything posted here: 2.0 USB ports, updated firmware, selected the correct output on the pc, tried both Mac and windows, and yes, I’ve connected my headphones to the jack, but there’s no sound whatsoever. Both Mac and windows pcs recognized the Ak100 as Iriver Dac, but it just doesn’t work. Do I have a faulty unit?

In case I cannot solve the issue, will I be able to use it as an external Dac via Digital input? Thanks in advance

I do not think it works as a USB-DAC/AMP. I tried too.

Hi, it does work, but it’s very picky. I tried with multiple devices and finally made it work with an old desktop computer running Windows 10.
Very true. It works. But it depends on your luck.

I tried too, only usb 2.0 and older laptop.

update:

As long as you use any old gen USB 2.0 hub (to downgrade your USB 3.0 port), then it works fine. I am still using it as USB DAC sometime.

Hi Astell&Kern fans,

Recently, I found and purchased four Astell&Kern early products:

AK100MKI/MKI, AK120 Black and AK120 Tiitan. ALL NEW in 2020!

Thanks Astell&Kern US team for helping me grab the last available leather cases, and my friends who generously provided me with the original standing dock, MQS album, and more. They are all in perfect conditions.

They are incredibly small and just of perfect size for me to operate comfortably using one single hand without worrying about dropping on the floor. Very good sound tune with warmness that is presented differently compared to their big brothers: SP1000SS and SP2000SS. They may not have that powerful performance in every aspect (OS/2.5mm balanced output/connectivity/CPU/Internal storage), but hey they still sound quite good. My paring: Vision Ears Erlkonig and Effect Audio Leonidas II Octa.

I especially love their volume knobs, brushed aluminum body and that delicate but retro slot doors for SD cards. Amazing build quality!

Let's see my collection. Let me know if you have any question!

- Jerry

Hi, is anyone still using AK100 (Mk1) in 2022 end??
I really love my unit and still rocking.

I have a question about it. Are the new dongle DACs like Lotoo Paw S2/Luxury & Precision W2/Cayin RU6 can be paired with AK100 via micro-USB to type-c cable??

Happy Listening to everyone here is a recent photo of my unit.

Hi, I am still using AK100 (MK 1), I love it and been witnessing AK keeps releasing DAP of higher and higher price DAPs, haha
Now I use it with Pico Slim Amp, as Apple Music has lossless (kind of), so as other streaming service with so many USB DACs available,
compairing with 2012 (the year I got AK100)... HiFi DAP is to handle rare records / files not available from Streaming Service only (to me).

Get to the main point to answer your question <<<<<

I don't have those dongle DAC you mentioned, but I do have sth like Nova tiny-M, or other Portable / Stick USB DACs.
IF you mean inserting the DAC into the macro USB of AK100, it won't work.
1. I tried.
2. The device is not such computer deivce like Android or so, it won't recognize or the software (OS) is not supposed to do that (unless someone clever enough to mod it).
3. Btw, Don't bother to try use AK100 as DAC for Android with OTG, I tried, it made my AK100 Frozen that I have to do hard reset.
My suggestion, try not to do weird thing with such legacy device, coz once damaged it would be very hard to repair. and AK100 is a high COP device :D

Alternatively, why not try some DAC that can take SPDIF input?
e.g. IFI NANO IONE

Cheers Mate.
