Pretty sure iRiver never got around to doing it. And given there's been a bunch of new models since & the last firmware update for this device was 9 mths ago, I wouldn't even count on getting another firmware update for it at all.

Edit - Just looked through release notes for the firmwares they've released; nope, never done.

What's your budget specifically? And also what are you after in terms of functionality?
If you don't mind less 1 card expansion slot and also no optical output, then I might suggest the AK Jr instead of the AK100.

Maybe a used one is better in terms of the price, basically $300-400 max. I don't need those you mentioned, that is correct. Basically what I need is a very portable player with great output, a rather warm than analytical type of sound and the widest soundstage possible. I'd use it for mostly 16 ohm buds, sometimes 32 and 45. Maybe this whole line is a bit out ot my league when it comes to money but I need the best sq possible.

The AK100Mk2 (don't confuse with the AK100 II) is the low impedance version of the original AK100, make sure to get the AK100Mk2 version as you're pairing with low impedance buds.

Now back to sound. The AK Jr and AK100Mk2 are very similar in sound signature as they both use the same Wolfson DAC chip. The major difference between the 2 are the form factor and also output amp.
1) Form factor wise I much prefer the svelte and slim size of the AK Jr. The screen is also better and slightly larger than the AK100Mk2. Standalone both are easily pocket-able, one being slim whilst the other small and stocky.

2) The output amp on the AK Jr is much better than on the AK100Mk2 in my opinion. It has a slightly better driving power. I find that I always need to use an external amp with my AK100Mk2.

If you're able to audition DAPs, that's the best method for you. Also within your budget, here are a few notable mentions:
FiiO X3 II
FiiO X5 II
Aune M2
Plenue D

Currently running 2x128GB SanDisk micro SD cards in my MKI. AK100. Has anyone had success with the 200GB cards? I'm a hankering after more storage capacity.

Works fine. I use200GB cards in a RWAK100, AK100/Glove Audio A1 combo and an AK120 Titan/Mojo stack.

Is there any way to control the volume via screen not by the wheel? I've tried without success.

Twist the wheel a bit until you see the volume on the screen. Then use your finger on the screen to slide left or right. Works on my two ak100 wit 2.42 firmware.

Cheers.

Not for me. I always use folder browsing to play whole albums.
