The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP

So that further tweaked RWAK100-S could finally kick Tera-Player's butts in the SQ department? It's getting even more exciting than ever.

>> I notice you own a Tera...lol <<
Besting the Tera SQ is important but also consider:
Price: $1100 vs. $1400 + $4-600+ for an amp, or 2X the price of the Tera...;-(
Size: Tera = petite vs. AK100S + AMP = Fat Stack....;-(

I just got the volume knob protector and I like it. It does protect and it looks good. Of course, it's way overpriced. But better to be safe, when sorry. And now it is much easier to take it from the case without thinking to brake the knob.
Also, I switched to Iriver 2.01 FW and, in my opinion, it is sound better when Listrid FW. Bass is more prominent, treble is more extended.
Soundstage is wider. Of course, with Eq On.

Can i check with someone else who has the AK100 volume knob protector(2) if it fits with the iRiver casing. If it doesn't imma place an order for a Dignis Case. :)

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Kinda apple and oranges maybe.  A Terra is built to be stand alone, and the RWAK100-S is made to only work with an amp.

Tera Player costs 1,680 euros now......what's that in dollars?

I'm using the original AK100 Case and also ordered the AK100 volume knob protector(2), yesterday (i think? maybe it was 2-3 days back, can't remember).

I will post photos if it fits.

Hmm don't think it fits was looking and comparing the difference between dignis and the original one. the original one has a slight curve upwards at the near the volume button whereas dignis' is straight throughout. So i just placed an order for a dignis case. lol

What sort of portable amp would pair with the ak100-s then? Anything relatively small?

The options are nearly endless.  But if small is what you're after.  The Headamp Pico Power, Vorzuge has two options, RSA has the Predator and the upcoming Lighting.  I'm forgetting a couple of other small ones.

So many amps, so little time...

Nevermind 'Price' above.
See the Tera is obviously 2X as good as we thought.......NOT!.....;-(

I like the ALO International. I originally bought the Rx-MK3, but the noise floor was too high (i.e., too much hiss). No such problem with the International. Also, the International is slightly smaller than the Rx-MK3 and as such "fits" the AK100 better.

but with a 22 ohm o/i, sounds nasty with any low/mid impedance IEMs i tried it with...ymmv
