The NEW ATH-ES700..

I guess my comment may seem a bit harsh, and I apologize for that. But I find it quite peculiar that you (and BenF) are speaking out so loudly about how crappy the ES700's are since there seems to be a whole bunch of us that really like them (myself REALLY liking them!). It seems like I'll have to get a hold of a pair of Superlux's just to see what all the fuss is about, but even if you like the 668B's and prefer them to the 700's, I don't think it's fair to write the 700's off as "junk". That is IMHO wildly misleading to potential buyers!

ES700 aren't "crappy" or "junk", but they do look better than they sound.
I REALLY wanted them to be the best headphones ever, since I invested over 300$ in them and they are gorgeous, but SQ-wise they are slightly below the 25$ S400. And ES700 pads can be used to torture terrorists.

ES700 is a decent buy for 150$, and it's not its fault that some cheaper alternatives outperform it.
As long as you don't hear these alternatives, you definitely may fall in love with ES700.

...
The es700 are one of the best cans but for some it just doesn't cut it as they may want a "U" or "V" shaped signature or even expect more of an open soundstage out of a closed can.

Anyway on another note,
The problem with sone other cans like JVC nanotubes is that you can't expect everyone to burn a can for over 200 hours to burn in and hope for best.
We should all look for a can that we like already and go from there..

Both S400 and S680 are at least just as balanced as ES700.
S680 requires only 48 hours of burn-in:

haha yes I saw that thread its about time they change up and the 680 is on my radar with the sony 7520 and the fostex th600 some day lol .
Always a new comer out but if you can find musicality out of what U have then thats what its all about

Wrong. It's all about never being satisfied with what you have and always looking for something new to drain the wallet.

They were thankfully deleted. Someone was out of control, and it was bound to happen.

guys! what portable amp would be perfect for es700? fiio e17 would be good enough?

The E17 works great with them. The versitility of the E17 is very good and since the 700's respond to EQ very well, you have the ability to mold the sound to your exact preferences!
