The M50 is a very popular headphone and for good reason.
It is a relatively cheap entry to the world of high end audio, it sounds good and is well put together.
It is the can i recommend most....until now.
Dont know quite how to say this, the Sony ZX700 is ... better.
It looks better, is more comfortable, isolates better, is cheaper and sounds better.
The sounds better needs some expanding, it is more neutral, more refined in the high end with better controlled bass.
The mids blow away the M50s.

My new recommendation, well done Sony..

Yep i use it on the bus and cant hear much around me at all, the bass is of a better quality than the M50 but less quantity. Vocals really shine on the Sony's , they make the M50 sound quite recessed in comparison.
The Sony's are much smoother than the M50's , i always found the treble a little harsh on the M50.

Well, I already thought Sony "dethroned" the M50's with the V6's, but it is cool to see the ZX700's are good. Maybe if I can sell my other headphones I'll buy some.

These came out very recently right? I recall the MRSP was higher than M50's so I just bit it and bought the M50's a few months back.

edit: it still is (pricier than M50's), on Ebay at least.

$120 listed price. Still cheaper than listed M50 prices that are not on sale.

Amazon is selling the ZX700 for $76 right now.

Very best,

Very best,

When I bought the M50's a few months back on Ebay, the M50's were around $105~115, and the (newly imported) ZX700 were all for $140+. Prices changed I guess but I needed some cans then, not now. Also Amazon doesn't take Paypal....

For others that $76 deal, even the $84 deal (since the $76 one only has 1 left) are a steal.

i listened to these at the sony store and didn't like them. they sounded bad. everything sounded out of place, it was harsh and also boring.

Why compare them even to the M50 if they don't even sound similar? I do understand though the M50 was the budget king at one point until they went up in price.
I've been looking into these for a few months. I'll buy a pair and compare them to my KRK KNS-6400. Those IMO are the best un-amped under $100 headphone there is.
I'm hoping to be able to use these during exercise without falling off my head.

Hopefully these really do have some slightly forward mids unlike the MDR-V6 which I've always hated.

BTW gotta love Amazon Prime. Getting these Saturday  morning

What was the source? Do you even know? Garbage in, garbage out.

Very best,

zx700 is actually very forgiving, it doesn't even need an amp to sound best, but ya good source would be better..

i also don't understand why people find these comfortable. they have a really uncomfortable cloth in between the driver and ear. yes they were light but i couldn't listen for longer then a few minutes.
