Cayin N6 testing and comparisons, T-Peos Altone350 testing and comparisons, and the octopus of cables required. Good times. :)

It's laborious - isn't it :)

How are you volume matching Craig?  I always wanted to try doing it by measuring voltage - but I don't have the set-up.  So for now I just have to stick with an SPL meter.

Just checked this link, Twister.

"Audiophile poisoning cannot extricate themselves without limits"

"Visible boutique accessories"

"Swedish national Level which without sense capacitance"

"Bigger Thrust and better performance"

Classic, classic, classic...

Everything I ever wanted in a portable amp :p   Though, might have to double check with @peter123
regarding that "Swedish national Level" :D

I've got no idea what it means but as long as it's Swedish I'm in :)

For Vince (and anyone else who wants to try)

3 files from Quiles and Cloud
DSD
Flac Redbook
aac256

Warning - it's a large download (about 600 mb)

ABX it if you can - you'll need software to volume match.

I'll leave the files there for 24 hours - after that I need to take them down.

Ugh! iPhone 5s VU SPL meter app and my ears. I know, not the best. I feel like Tyll when he's taking measurements of headphones........ well, not really . I put the IEM right up to the mic and it registers pretty well though without much variance. The app reads an ambient room decibel level between 30-37 at night in a silent room and around 50-60 during the day so I feel it's pretty close.

The N6 is more powerful than I thought given the 220mW per channel @32 Ohm specs. For example, on the N6 I play a track at volume level 23 (23% maximum volume) for an average output of 80-85 db with brief peaks at 93-98 db. The same db output level on the X5 requires the volume to be around 46-47 (38-39% maximum volume). Both devices on low gain. The X5 is rated at 255mW @32 Ohm, and I believe Joe confirmed its supposed to be per channel as well. I wonder if it's the BTL amplification at work here (offering double voltage swing)?

Yes, it's a lot of work but fun at the same time. :)

x RELIC x...nice....No wonder no update to your X5 theme.....joking

Enjoy....

Man, it's actually the font that's holding me up. The default font is too thin and what I've tried so far is either too short or too thick. Doesn't help that the X5 only reads .ttf format and I'm not buying a font for a custom theme. You're talking about the new X5 Classic theme right?

Craig when you're doing the volume matching - don't use music to calibrate.

Set the first amp at a comfortable level for listening.  Then play a 1 kHz constant test tone and measure the SPL.  Then play the same tone through the second amp - and adjust volume to match exactly.  Recheck - then you know you're volume matched.  You use the tones at 1 kHz because its the frequency we are most sensitive to volume.  And the tones can give you a constant reading.  I generated and downloaded tones from here.  I have them on all my DAPs in a folder (500 Hz, 1 kHz and 3 kHz)

And if you get really serious about it - here's what I'm now using:

Nah man....just messin' with you....take your time with theme....you know me...big fan of your theme...all of them in fact...you also know me prefer bigger or better contrast font...old eyes. Thanks man for all your work for X5

Whoa Whoa Whoa! You trying to keep me honest and perhaps a bit professional?

Thanks for the link, appreciated! Much easier than using Dr. Chesky's Ulitmate Headphone Demonstration Disk. :D

Interesting stuff. Can I jump in? As a total newb, any suggestions for some kind of hub device/switcher for doing blind testing? Something with 2 or more line-ins, and 2 or more volume-adjustable headphone outs? And not too pricy?
